The Biggest Misconception about Company Culture

When you think of company culture, what comes to mind? Big employers like Google, Facebook or Zappos? Companies that have ping-pong tables in the rec room, outdoor basketball courts or a coffee barista on-hand to keep employees caffeinated continuously throughout the day. Or maybe you think of more intangible things like letting employees set their own hours or work from home.

Those items above being tied into company culture is one of the biggest misconceptions about it. Those examples above are your perks and benefits and just because a company may have some of those in place, does not mean they have a handle on providing great company culture for their employees.

With an emphasis on company culture in this month’s IASourceLink, I hit the jackpot for the entrepreneur spotlight. It was recommended I reach out to Sean Abbas, Co-Founder and President of Threads in Cedar Falls, IA.


A little background about Sean as an entrepreneur - he has over 25 years of real-world experience managing people and leading companies and aside from Threads, he is also the owner of a manufacturing company called Baird Mounting Systems and a member of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Board of Directors.
 
Small Business Grant Contest
LendingTree Launches $50,000 Small Business Grant Contest

Charlotte, N.C. (November 29, 2016) - Small business owners face a long list of challenges, and for many, the obstacle of securing financial resources needed to grow a business claims the top spot on the list. That's the driving force behind LendingTree's inaugural $50,000 Small Business Grant Contest, where LendingTree will present the winning small business a $50,000 grant to help fund future growth.

Small businesses interested in participating in LendingTree’s $50,000 Small Business Grant Contest can submit their registration online from November 29, 2016 through January 13, 2017.
