WELCOME TO THE IASOURCELINK RESOURCE PARTNER NEWSLETTER!
Happy New Year!
I used a few quiet days during December to take care of some much needed office organization. I’d like to say this was a goal I wanted to accomplish before the New Year, but it didn’t really happen that way. Rather, there was an external force at hand in the form of an office overhaul (paint, carpet, etc.) which required the entire contents of my office to be packed away.
As if ‘purging so as not to pack’ wasn’t enough, more chaos was thrown in the mix when at the same time we transferred to a new agency email system. This was fine until I learned that none of the 8,652 emails in my ‘Deleted’ folder would be moving. A frightening thought, as I used the folder like a long-term storage cabinet. Regardless, the move necessitated my having to identify the 50 or so emails that might actually be important and re-file them, as well as overcome the urge to move all 8,652 emails someplace else. Brutal. Still, while I’ve regretted the loss of an email or two, I have to admit it’s been freeing to let go.
And since I’m now on an organizing kick, it’s a good time to tackle other projects. One area I’ll be focusing on over the next month or so is ensuring that all IASourceLink Resource Partners have up-to-date profiles in the Resource Navigator. Be on the lookout for an email from me asking you to please review your current profile and to provide updated information if needed. Even better, feel free to take a few minutes to check out your organization’s profile and let me know if edits need to be made. Our overall goal is to be sure entrepreneurs can identify you and the services you offer when they are looking for assistance. Plus, it’s a great way to start on your own organizing kick!
Cheers to you for a successful, (and organized), 2017!

FROM THE DIRECTOR'S DESK
By Debi Durham via Iowa Economic Development Authority
Hello, I’m Debi Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The coming of a new year always seems to provide a clean slate with which to write your next chapter. Resolutions are made and goals are set. We tend to think of goal-setting on more personal terms such as developing healthier eating habits or exercising more. But as community leaders, this is also a good time for review and envisioning goals for the future prosperity of your city.
Coworking locations have been growing across Iowa over the past few years. These facilities offer community, convenience and a flexible workspace for entrepreneurs and remote workers, but they require some tender loving care to become sustainable and to thrive. In this quarter’s Resource Partner update, we called on Darcy Swon, founder of inTANDEM workspace in Webster City, to share her thoughts on launching and growing a cowork facility.
