To Comfort always, to Relieve often, to Save sometimes
Dear Friends,

The Big News this month is that we have started work on an extension to our Zhengzhou unit. This will increase the number of beds from 45 to 105. The Zhengzhou Special Care Center has been one of the busiest units this year with a real need to expand. If you would like to support the equipping of a room in the unit please contact me at robin@hopefosterhome.com

It has been a very busy month at New Hope Foundation. Mending Kids International (MKI), a medical mission group from Los Angeles, CA came to Luoyang and partnered with the Women and Children’s Hospital to operate on 14 babies. Also, the Medart Team from Hong Kong is going to Suzhou and almost 30 of our babies will receive treatment. In Beijing we have had two schools staying with us - St Paul’s School from Beijing and Pathlight School from Singapore.

Joyce is continuing to improve. She still has some memory loss and some balance issues. She is back on e-mail, and feel free to contact her at joyce@hopefosterhome.com

It is really encouraging to see the Hope team working so well and being so effective helping the babies in our care.

Joyce was able to visit Zhengzhou and Luoyang (photo above).  The staff was very excited to see her.
News

Sophie
went to Hong Kong for surgery with MedArt.  Dr. John Ngan and his team performed 14.5 hours of complex surgery on her, and she is recovering well.

Maisen, Henry, Chilton, Cedric, Quade, Danny, Wendy, Emmerick, Declan, Xenith, Zoren, and Wyatt all had complex surgery with MKI.  Yuri and Hubert also had more minor procedures.  We are very thankful for the MKI Team.  Here they are with their surgical candidates:

MedArt’s Fall trip to Suzhou this year will help many different babies.  Lianne, Harryl, and Yaniza were sent to Suzhou for neurosurgery with MedArt and the Suzhou doctors.

MedArt’s cleft surgery team plans to operate on Joseph, Christian, Joanna, Lily-Mae, Truett, Herschel, Kalel, HX Liu, Yeva, Micah, London, Jamison, and Peter in Suzhou.  They also plan on surgery, spina bifida clinic evaluation, and/or urodynamic studies for Jensen, Ynez, Cerina, Leith, Timothy, Jenaise, Ryker, Russell, Marcus, Quinlan, and Lindsay.

Special Care Centers in the Henan Province: Jiaozuo, Luoyang, Xinyang, and Zhengzhou

These Centers provide humane and loving hospice care for infants and young children with severe congenital defects who are unlikely to survive under normal circumstances.  Those who survive are unexpected blessings.
Jiaozuo (Show Hope Special Care Center)
Bryce was admitted.

Luoyang (Show Hope Special Care Center)
(Maria’s Big House of Hope)
Dirk, Rolin, and Chalker were admitted.  Celeste was sent to a local hospital and returned doing much better.  Sonja was sent for heart surgery.  Metta was also sent for heart surgery, but she passed away in the hospital from serious postoperative complications.  She is very much missed.  Faith and Annikan returned from heart surgery doing well.  We were sad to say goodbye to Lorelei who peacefully passed away.  Bric also peacefully passed away.  Darcy returned from surgery but passed away soon after returning.  Landon, Tammy, and Julia needed to return to their orphanages.

Xinyang (Show Hope Special Care Center)
Lindsay was admitted and sent urgently to Suzhou for surgery.  Harryl and Yaniza were sent to Luoyang to prepare for surgery.

Zhengzhou (Show Hope Special Care Center)
Deanna, Collette, Ysmael, Yollie, and Mallory were admitted.  Maisen was admitted and transferred urgently to Luoyang for surgery with the Mending Kids International team.  He has fought very hard to survive, and needs many more prayers.  Niko passed away soon after heart surgery in the hospital.  We are very sad and miss him dearly.  Fidel passed away after a long battle with hydrocephalus.  He no longer will suffer.  Xielle was sent to Luoyang for hernia surgery, but he developed a pneumonia from which he is now beginning to recover.  Gavin and Jensen (from Zhengzhou) needed to return to their orphanage.

Love Without Boundaries Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit (18 beds)
Jenny was sent to local hospital then needed to be sent to Shanghai.  Fortunately she has improved, and we hope will meet her new family this coming month!  Jensen (from Heartbridge) was sent to Suzhou for evaluation and possible surgery with MedArt.
Thank You

We would like to say thank you this month to all of you that have continued to financially support the work here in China.

A big thank you goes to Eirene who organized “Pearl Blessing” sale of pearls in Hong Kong and raised over HK$145,000.

Also, thank you to the International Montessori School of Beijing who raised over Rmb34,000.

God continues to provide for the care of all our babies and we are all really grateful for that.
Our Needs

We are in need of sponsors to help equip the new unit in Zhengzhou. Please contact me for details.

We also have a continued need for general finances to cover our running cost for Beijing.
Thankfully,

Robin and Dr. Joyce HIll, with Dr. Steve Martin
