To Comfort always, to Relieve often, to Save sometimes
Caption: Nurse Mona Elizalde with kids and staff

This month we say a very sad “ goodbye” to Mona (pictured above), our head nurse who is returning to the Philippines. She has been an integral part of our family and medical team. Mona was married last year and it is time for her to be with her husband and family. She has been with us for 6 years and has been a precious member of our medical team. Her medical skills have been vital and her love for the babies has been central to their recovery. We will miss her very much but there is a season for everything. Her decision to return to the Philippines is necessary at this time but our doors are open to her to return should she choose to do so in the future. Thankfully we have several applications for nurses both from the US and the Philippines to join us as we expand our work.

We are filled with gratitude for the help of Neurosurgeons, Dr CP Yu his colleagues Dr YW Fan ( from Hong Kong) and Dr Wang ( from Suzhou) and Plastic surgeon Dr LK Lam from Hong Kong. They operated on a child from Mongolia whom we have been asked to help, who was born with a deformity that caused the frontal part of her brain to herniate between her eyes. She is not an orphan so Rob and I have chosen to personally cover her medical costs.

The surgery was difficult but a great success and as she continues to heal, we wish her all the very best. As Dr Yu says, “The heart to serve is a gift. Thus freely we have received, and freely we shall give in return”

Pierce left for the US with Nurse Mariah for assessment of his eye condition and we are hoping for good news.

Steven was admitted to Beijing United hospital for 2 emergency surgeries. He is a baby sent to us by Love Without Boundaries for medical care. We are very thankful to Beijing United Hospital for helping us with a reduction of his medical costs but more funds are needed. Steven is still not out of the woods yet so we ask for prayer for his full recovery.

We would like to especially thank Sir John Craven for his very generous financial gift in memory of his late wife Ning Ning. As we continue to serve the orphans with medical needs, our medical bills never cease.

Thankfully,

Dr. Joyce and Robin Hill, with Dr. Steve Nelson Martin
