“When it happens, what to do”:
Practicalities of Salvaging Collections

Programme to be finalised but the topics to be covered in the morning and early afternoon sessions are:

  • Using climate change data to inform emergency and salvage plans
  • How to deal with the initial stages of an incident, including security issues
  • Two case studies looking at particular large scale incidents and how the organisations responded to them (awaiting confirmation from speakers)
  • Issues surrounding the salvaging of human remains
In the second afternoon session there will be practical demonstrations covering:
  • Documenting and tracking collections in an emergency situation
  • Handling, drying and packing waterlogged archive material
  • Handling, drying and packing damaged objects
  • Scenarios
