Finally, sad news of the death on 9th February 2021 of Professor Michael S. Moss. He was an author, teacher and inspiration to archivists and to those with an interest in Scottish business and industrial history.

Prof. Moss was the archivist at Glasgow University from 1974-2001. From 2004 he was Research Professor in Archival Studies in the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (now Information Studies) at Glasgow University until 2013, when he was appointed Professor of Archival Science at the University of Northumbria.

He was author of such books as ‘The Making of Scotch Whisky’ and ‘Workshop of the British Empire’ - both with John R Hume, ‘Shipbuilders to the World’ (125 years of Harland and Wolff) and other company/business histories including works on the TSB and Standard Life.
