FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fifteen years ago, my wife and I attended a presentation given by the leadership of CAPP at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ that introduced us to CAPP and Catholic Social Teaching. The beauty and relevance of CST resonated profoundly within us, and we became more and more engaged with CAPP and its mission.

In many ways it has truly been a gift for us to be part of this journey, to meet and work with so many wonderful people of faith and serve the Church in this capacity. We feel greatly blessed to be called to the CAPP Foundation, and I hope you, too, are able to appreciate the great gift of CST.

CAPP’s purpose is to evangelize with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching - to offer our culture a proven way to address the many challenges it faces - and I invite you to support us in this mission by using this link to our donation page.

I hope you enjoy this newsletter and would welcome any comments or suggestions at ffakharzadeh@capp-usa.org.

Wishing you a most blessed Advent and wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Yours in Christ,

Fred

THE FAMILY AND THE STATE

“The authorities responsible for the common good must be seriously committed to the primary good of society, namely, the family.” (Synod Report to Pope Francis, 12)

Are they? “The family is experiencing a profound cultural crisis” which “is particularly serious because the family is the fundamental cell of society, where we learn to live with others despite our differences and to belong to one another; it is also the place where parents pass on the faith to their children.” (Pope Francis, 66)

CAPP's Most Successful Year!

Pope St. John Paul II gave CAPP the mission of evangelizing the world with CST. This year is seeing wonderful results!

  1. Over 110,000 visits to our website.

  2. Over 30,000 people have learned Church teaching on abortion on our site!

  3. 56,000 viewed CAPP voting videos over the four weeks prior to elections.

Help Promote Catholic Social Teaching!

All of us at CAPP-USA want to express our gratitude for YOU! We could not do our vital work of promoting CST in Society without your support. YOU make the transformative power of the Gospel present in our day and age.

We invite you to join in Fred’s invitation in the introduction to keep the mission of Christ alive and flourishing. As we approach the end of the year, there’s still time to make a gift!

ZUNG NGUYEN

Zung is a financial executive with over 40 years of global experience with major Wall Street firms. He joined CAPP in 2016 "to gain a deeper understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and to do my part in working with other leaders to promote it."

Zung is a living testament to the American dream: "My family went through 3 'exoduses' in Vietnam and came to America to rebuild a blessed life".

"I was not born Catholic but joined the Church just before his first child received communion in 1991, twenty years after my father joined! I wanted to follow my mother's footsteps and be a part of a faith that was so important to them and my young family."

Zung is the founder of ZTN Capital Consulting, which provides advisory services in asset and wealth management. Zung has also written and spoken extensively on Impact Investing, which he argues "has deep biblical roots".

He is active in providing pro-bono advice to various Catholic endowments, in the NYC tri-state region on matters relating to asset allocation, ESG/Impact investing and governance.

Zung is an experienced FINRA Dispute Resolution Arbitrator, "giving back to an industry that has been very good to me and my family".

Poverty is not fought with welfarism, no; in this way we 'anaesthetize' it…'Helping the poor financially must always be a provisional solution…The broader objective should always be to allow them a dignified life through work'. The doorway is work: the door to the dignity of a man is work”.

LET US PRAY

Loving Father, you gather us together in this time and place. Send your Spirit to be with us and open our hearts to do your will as we make this journey, dedicated to evangelizing your Word through Catholic social teaching.  Help us with your grace to embrace this new evangelization with faith and love. May it empower us to recognize you and to bear witness to your presence in the world.  We ask this through the intercession of our founder, Saint John Paul the Great and Our Lady of Fatima, with her son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
