A note from our President

All the trees have leafed out and the flowers are blooming, I hope you are enjoying our pleasant Alabama Spring weather, because it won’t be long before we will be fully overtaken by Alabama Summer!  We have lots of new initiatives in the works for ALAPA and several upcoming activities of which you will want to be aware.

Mississippi-Alabama Joint Chapter Conference

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the joint Mississippi-Alabama Chapter conference to be held September 14-16, 2016 in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino.  This should be a fun and informative conference and I encourage you to plan to attend.  This is a great opportunity to share experiences with members of our sister chapter, develop new professional contacts and form new friendships.

Registration is now open and available for you to access through the Chapter’s website at www.alabamaplanning.org.

Chapter Elections

It is time again for you to select your Executive Committee members for the next term.  The Nominations Committee is working to develop a slate of officers and forward them to APA National for inclusion on the ballot.

If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the ALAPA Executive Committee please see the information in the newsletter below. The nomination cycle is in full swing and will conclude May 27, 2016, so get your information in to Scott as soon as possible.

Also, on the ballot this year will be a fully updated set of Bylaws for the Chapter.  The revisions to the Bylaws represents months of work on behalf of the Executive Committee.  You will find that the Bylaws have been significantly simplified to represent only how the Chapter is run on an ongoing basis.  All policy and procedures have been moved to a new “Policies and Procedures Manual” which will take effect upon adoption of the Bylaws.  This document will describe in detail the programs, committees and positions that the Executive Committee oversees and establish minimum standards for the completion of their activities.

I strongly encourage you to vote in favor of the new Bylaws.  The resulting changes will allow the Executive Committee to more easily conduct day to day businesses and make needed adjustments to activities without requiring a Bylaws amendment each time a change is needed.

Until next time, Happy Planning!

Warm Regards,
