Introducing Our New Partner, The Kitchen!

When it comes to connecting with local players on the courts, PlayTime Scheduler is your #1 resource. But we all know our wonderful pickleball community extends much further than our own neighborhood. When you want to connect with pickleballers all over the world, The Kitchen is the place to be!

The Kitchen’s mission is to help grow the sport of Pickleball and to do that, it is vital there be a thriving community reaching beyond the circle of people you play with in person. We wanted to create a place for people from all over to share their experiences, learn and improve their game, connect with other like-minded Pickleball enthusiasts, and welcome those who are just learning about the game.

We take pride in the content we post in our Facebook communities and on our social channels, and do our best to ensure the conversations surrounding those are positive and productive. Also, we love giving back to our members by giving away a ton of high-end paddles and gear!

One of the things we love about this Pickleball community is how diverse we are. It doesn’t matter where you are from, what you look like, how old (or young) you are, if you want to play this game you are welcome here. As the fastest growing sport in America, Pickleball will need to grow to accommodate so many new players. Obviously, there is a need for infrastructure in terms of courts, teaching pros, and leagues, but we also need to create spaces that invite and encourage new players to join. We are incredibly proud to have created a community where players of all levels can learn, ask questions, and be inspired to get out on a court and play this game.

Debra has been helping run the Asheville/ Brevard/ Hendersonville, North Carolina region for several years. This region is very active with over 3,800 play sessions to date. We asked Deb a few questions about her experience being a regional admin:

How long have you been playing pickleball and where did you learn to play?
Started playing 5.5 years ago, about 6 months after I retired at 60. I had heard about the game but had not seen it played. I went to the YMCA in Hendersonville, started on a wooden paddle, bought my first paddle shortly after, been an addict ever since.

When did you first join PlayTime?
I joined PlayTime in April 2019 while residing in Waynesville. It was so great to check where folks would be playing in Asheville before deciding whether or not to drive 30 miles to a public court.

What do you think is the most rewarding part of being a regional admin?
First, I get to use some of the abilities that served me before I retired. Attention to details. Organization. Writing and communication. Second, I enjoy providing assistance and PlayTime is an effective tool to do so. It helps new players and new to the area players get in stride quickly with venues and players. This dovetails with my role as an ambassador with USA Pickleball.

What’s the biggest challenge?
Getting caught in friendly crossfire and trying to resolve issues. It can come from competing groups, someone feeling excluded from small and private sessions, and sadly the players who act like their session is a reservation. Courts are in high demand for prime time hours. Folks get stressed.

What advice would you give to a new region considering setting up PlayTime?
  1. Go to the source for venue for information. Talk to city, town, or county. It helps to have permission from any private entities like HOA, YMCA, Racquet Clubs, and Country Clubs.
  2. Draw out your idea of how to organize your areas and locations. 
  3. Do it! Set up your region, areas, and locations. Set up a session and show it to players. Talk to them about using edit session to change time, notes for a session, and being able to email session players. Such big time savers!

PlayTime Premium - Tips & Tricks

Automated Wait Lists

Special events like clinics or round robins often require a precise number of players. Along with setting a minimum and maximum number of players, Power Users also have the ability to create automated wait lists, helping ensure a perfect number of players every time.

After a session reaches its maximum, additional players who sign up will be alerted that they are on the wait list. If anyone on the playlist later drops out, the list will automatically shuffle, and the first player on the wait list will be bumped up. They will also receive an email notification – “Congrats, you’re in!”
In the case of "equal mix” gender sessions, the first player on the wait list of the same gender as the player who dropped out will be bumped up. To help promote fairness, guests are not allowed on wait lists.

Automated wait lists are a huge time saver when planning an event, and allow for instant notification of playlist changes, giving organizers more piece of mind that their event will fill. To start using this awesome feature, upgrade to Power User today!
