This extra newsletter is being sent out due to its time-sensitive nature. We received this message from a coordinator of Nature Manitoba’s Gardens of Distinction Garden Tour. As his message states, he is looking for gardens to include on the 2023 tour in the St. James area.
"We are planning the garden tour for early June 2023 but we get people signed up this July/August at the latest so we can see their gardens at their best."
If you are interested in having your garden added to the garden tour please send me an email ( email@example.com ) with contact information to pass on to Tim. Keep in mind there is a July/August deadline to sign up. Please see his introduction below.
I should introduce myself. My name is Tim Evans and I am coordinator for Nature Manitoba's Gardens of Distinction Garden Tours. We are hands down the oldest garden tour group in Manitoba and we have our annual garden tour yearly, usually the 2nd Saturday in July. Our garden tours are our main source of funding for our various programs which are all listed at www.naturemanitoba.ca. We seek out gardens which are complete pictures front and back, we engage our gardeners and the volunteers in pre-tours of each other's gardens 2 nights before the garden tour happens and then have a giant potluck a week afterwards. We also engage a local museum in the area to host our plant sale and refreshment table on the same day as the garden tour. We ensure the gardeners have the opportunity to mix and mingle with other gardeners in the areas we choose each year, sometimes for the exchange of gardening ideas, sometimes for plants and seeds, etc.
Next year, 2023, I am planning a garden tour of 10-12 gardens in St. James / Charleswood / Westwood. Would you be able to recommend to me possible tour-worthy gardens of members within your group?
I have lived in the St. James area for the last 10 years so should consider participating in the St. James Horticultural Society.
