Scatter books like leaves of Autumn. -
'This is a work that should be done. The end is near. Already much time has been lost, when these books should have been in circulation. Sell them far and near. Scatter them like the leaves of Autumn.  This work is to continue without the forbiddings of anyone. Souls are perishing out of Christ. Let them be warned of His soon appearing in the clouds of heaven . - Review and Herald, Aug. 13, 1908.

He Wanted Nothing . . .

I Looked like a Very Fat Man

Over 1,000 Pieces of Literature

He Wanted Nothing
to do with the Church

Late in 2015 I sold a series of the Encyclopedia of Foods & Their Healing Power to an elderly man who told me “My Dad used to do what you do and sell books in people’s homes”. He told me his deceased father used to be a Colporteur and that he was a very strict religious man. He told me he wanted nothing to do with the church he grew up in as a result, so I didn’t say too much.

Recently I decided to call back on this man only to discover that a lot has happened since my last visit. Bill told me his wife had suffered cancer and was recovering, but had lost her hair and teeth in the process. He told me I should come back again in six months when things have settled down as his wife wouldn’t feel comfortable seeing me in her condition.

I told him we had a wonderful new book on juicing called Healthy Juices which she would benefit from while she had no teeth so that she could keep up her nutrition. He went to show his wife, then came out and said “We’ll take it, how much is it?!” He said this is just what she needs right now. He invited me inside the home and as I engaged with him I discovered he had several grandchildren. I showed him our brochure with children’s Christian resources and he asked me which church this was associated with. I proudly said Seventh-day Adventist, unsure as to how he would react. He smiled and said “I thought so” as he recognised “My Bible Friends” books pictured on the front of the brochure.

He said he had those books when he was a kid. He then realised that I too was a Colporteur and did the same work as his Dad. He seemed very happy with this. He then went to his bookshelf and pulled out the old health books his Dad used to sell like “Modern Ways to Health”.

He began to share with me that his Dad was so strict that he couldn’t wait to leave home as a young person and have nothing to do with the Seventh-day Adventist church. I sympathised with him and empathised with how difficult his strict Seventh-day Adventist upbringing must have been.

I gave Bill a U–Turn magazine and after a lengthy discussion about his upbringing I asked him if he knew of the book, The Great Controversy? He wasn’t familiar with it so I offered him Darkness Before Dawn and History of Tomorrow instead. I asked if I could pray with him and thanked God for leading me to Bill’s home again. After prayer he said he still believes in God and the Bible and all that he learnt as a child. We praised God together as we realised that God had sent me there just at the right time.

I Looked Like a Very Fat Man
with a Slim Face
I was invited to mediate the marriage between a white Australian man and a black African girl in Western Australia. I informed the Victorian Literature Evangelist Team Leader and he advised me to carry my books with me and to sell them while I was away in Perth for two weeks.

As weight was going to be an issue, Joe told me to wear as much clothes as I could and use the bag for the books because the African communities in Western Australia would really need to buy our Children’s Heritage library.

When I announced I was going to Perth at my church, I received tremendous support except one church member who insisted that I leave the books behind because African migrants in Western Australia are not going to buy them anyway. But as a Literature Evangelist I could not afford to leave my books.

At the airport, after weighing my bag, I had excess luggage of 7 Kilograms which would cost me $175 and I had only about $100 Australian dollars in my bank account. This was a serious issue and I earnestly prayed to God for help.

My check in time was running out so I rushed into the men’s room and began to put on as many clothes as I could. This left me looking like a very fat man with a very slim face, as I was wearing three pairs of trousers and five jackets. When I came back to weigh I was only required to pay an additional $30 dollars, which I was able to manage. God helped me and I was able to take all the clothes I needed for the pre-wedding function and the Childrens Heritage books for the Western Austalian migrants.

My trip to Perth was blessed by God. All went well at the engagement, and with my visits as a Literature Evangelist, I had some very good sales. I also praise God for the opportunity to display our bible books in a WA Nuer congregation church service which is a Sunday keeping church. Thank you God.

Over 1,000 Pieces of Literature Given  Away by Church Members

Above are Alotau town church members who combined with other branch churches for the mass distribution of Literature. The church was divided into six groups targeting all the schools in the area. Praise God, 1,059 pieces of free literature, tracts and books were given away.

The Press God’s Instrumentality. - The press is a powerful means to move the minds and hearts of the people… The press is a powerful instrumentality which God has ordained to be combined with the energies of the living preacher to bring the truth before all nations, kindred’s, tongues, and people. Many minds can be reached in no other way. - Colporteur Ministry, page 148.

Praise God, Jesus is Coming and we must all work together to visit the unreached preparing them for His soon return in the clouds of heaven.
