God Gives Success . . .
"It is God alone who can give success either in preparing or in circulating our publications. If in faith we maintain His principles, He will co-operate with us in placing the books in the hands of those whom they will benefit. The Holy Spirit is to be prayed for, trusted in, believed in. Humble, fervent prayer will do more to promote the circulation of our books than will all the expensive ornamentation in the world." - Testimonies, Vol 7, pages 158, 159 (1902).

Miraculously . . .

I have worked in the corporate space for 35 years starting out as a Receptionist/Telephonist for a few years, and moved on to Management roles and then worked as a Facilities Manager for eight years. God had been nudging me for the last ten years to join the Literature Evangelist work and I finally conceded that I had no good reason not to (other than being petrified of it) and that I needed to “walk” the faith I “talked”.

Miraculously God chose me for the trial role in New Zealand to sell the Abundant Living Series (Encyclopedia of Foods x3, Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants x2 and Family Bible), and while I was petrified, I knew that it was God’s gig and that He would be my ever-present help in times of need.

My first job was to learn my canvass and I thought “how hard can that be?” Well it was so much harder than I imagined and when Jared French, South Pacific Division Publishing Director came for the first visit I was so worried because I didn’t know it, but Jared was very gracious and encouraging.

A few weeks in I got to meet up with Adam Weal who walked me through putting brochure stands in to shops (to get leads/referrals) and then a couple weeks later I got to spend two days with Joe Paola walking me through “going live” with my canvass and following up some leads.

What an incredible couple of days. My first customer bought the whole set and gave three referrals, my next customer didn’t buy and wasn’t able to give any referrals, but I know she loved our visit and I feel confident she may buy later. My next customer bought the Family bible and is considering purchasing books for a colleague. My next customer bought the whole set and gave a referral and this was all just on day 1.

Day 2 we did an hour and a half of cold calling door-to-door and met a lady who was adverse to the Bible, but took a Great Controversy and couldn’t wait to read it and then we got to sell a whole set to her neighbour (a church minister) and got another referral.

We then went to our appointment and sold a whole set to someone who had said to herself she wasn’t buying before we arrived and then we sold a whole set to her son as well. These two days have left me feeling elated and humbled at the same time, and while I don’t feel in any way worthy or qualified, I know God is definitely in the midst of this work and if I do my best, He will do the rest, I just need to get out of the way.

Keeping It In the Family -

Total Member Involvement

The repeated TMI door knocking event. It was encouraging to see people stepping out of their comfort zones in an effort to develop some interpersonal skills.

A highlight for Jump Start Australia was to run a Total Member Involvement (TMI) / Friendship Evangelism/Canvassing Crash Course for Toowoomba Central Church, a local church family. After a brief ‘briefing,’ the foot soldiers were sent into their neighborhoods armed with life-saving literature to place into the hands, hearts and homes of the community.

The mission of Literature Evangelism supports the mission of the church, so we sent the brave beginners with a brief canvass, supported by tips, points and much prayer. The eager church members were successful in their efforts to find spiritual contacts for a city-wide public evangelistic series that will run later in the year in Toowoomba (South QLD), called PROPHETICA 2017 The History of Tomorrow, organized largely by Julian Archer.

The program was so successful, the church members requested a REPEAT workshop be offered a few weeks later which was done. The personal ministries department of the church purchased all the books that were distributed. “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?” Jeremiah 12:5.

On a personal note, my very supportive, talkative introverted wife, went on the doors with me for the very first time. My older brother also joined us, visiting from overseas. As well, my mother was very enthusiastic in the project. This was truly TMI at its best! The repeated TMI door-knocking event. It was encouraging to see people stepping out of their comfort zones in an effort to develop some interpersonal skills.

And finally, some juicy statistics which every church administrator loves to peruse. My wife and I spent one hour on the doors, found 7 people who were home, gave away 5 sets of books and found 3 contacts.

There were many positive stories that came out of these two Sabbath afternoon activities. The blessing was in the ‘go.’ Will you ‘go ye therefore…’ and do some practical personal evangelism using the printed page to begin a life-saving conversation with your neighbors? Others have gone before you and have returned home happy and blessed.

Never Give Up!

What a blessing we receive when we don’t give up!

I met a young couple who asked me to come back in the afternoon, which I did, but no one was home.

The next day, not wanting to give up, I made a special visit to their street and found the lady home. She said she was disappointed she missed me on the day of the appointment, but was glad I came back.

She told me that her and her partner had just been talking about how to get Bible stories, DVDs and resources for the family when I visited! Also on the first visit, her and her friends had just finished talking about getting Bible resources too.

What a blessing to be used by God to be at the right place at the right time! Her and her daughter were over the moon with our Books and I left with an invitation to also visit the oldest daughter!

Praise God for His timing and leading.
