Good morning,

A major focus of the Oberlin College Sustainable Infrastructure Program is replacing the underground heating and cooling pipes to prepare the campus for geothermal energy. This work requires significant excavation. Unfortunately, when digging for these underground pipes, we occasionally run into unforeseen underground utilities.

While crossing College Street, the construction team has discovered several utilities that were not anticipated. While we anticipated the closing of College Street to last approximately seven days, these unanticipated utility conflicts will be extending this closure. Tomorrow (Thursday), we will be shifting pedestrian traffic to the south side of College Street, and we will begin working on a deep storm sewer line on the north side of College Street. This storm sewer relocation work is expected to last through the weekend, with street restoration to be completed next Monday and Tuesday. College Street is expected to be reopened by next Wednesday, August 18.
