Coronavirus situation in Rwanda.

There are now 17 confirmed cases of COVID_19 being treated in Rwanda.

As of 23:59 Saturday 21 March 2020, Rwanda is restricting unnecessary movement and visits outside the home are not permitted, for an initial period of 2 weeks. Borders have been closed, except for goods and cargo and schools and universities were closed on 15 March. All our students who were at boarding schools are now also at home. Church services and large gatherings have been suspended and bars and restaurants close tonight although take-away service is permitted. Shops selling food, hygiene and cleaning products, fuel and other essential items as well as pharmacies are permitted to stay open.

ASFA Physio Centre - in line with government advice last week, all our inpatients and carers went home on Monday and Tuesday this week with the exception of lead carer, Francine. Francine will stay at ASFA, with her daughter, to look after baby Angie who is unable to return home. Lead physiotherapist, Diogene will stay in Muganza with his wife and UK physiotherapist, Jessica, returned to London today. We’d like to thank Jessica most sincerely for her incredible contribution to ASFA Physiotherapy – she has been an absolute megastar and I know will be sorely missed.

Project manager, Jean, has been working hard to finish the building and we have been prioritising works so if needed, the centre can be made available to local government for use as a hospital. Today's announcement, however, will impact construction as some workers will need to return home.

With strict measures in place, we sincerely hope that Rwanda can get ahead of the curve and that the healthcare system will cope with the weeks ahead. We very much hope that our friends, colleagues and beneficiaries stay healthy and we will be in regular contact to monitor the situation.

Thank you for your on-going support and should you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Murakoze neza (thank you!) as they say in Rwanda
