KU Communicators breakfast August 11

The first KU Communicators meeting of the semester will have a different format than our usual meetings. Instead of an hour-long lunch, you’re invited to join us for a workshop on diversity and inclusion designed especially for KU Communicators on Thursday, August 11 from 9 a.m. until noon in the Ballroom of the Kansas Union.

This workshop, developed by the KU Office of Multicultural Affairs, will cover the foundations of cultural competency and social justice and give you some tools to ensure your communications strategies align with best practices regarding diversity and inclusion.

Registration and breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m. We encourage you to arrive before 9 a.m. to check in and grab a bite to eat.

Far Above campaign concludes

In April 2012, KU publicly launched Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas with a goal to raise 1.2 billion. Four years later, in June 2016, the campaign ended having raised a remarkable $1.66 billion to boost student support, faculty, facilities and programs at the University of Kansas and The University of Kansas Hospital.

KU Endowment and Marketing Communications are celebrating the close of Far Above with a social media campaign utilizing the hashtag #WeRoseFarAbove and a landing page featuring some terrific Far Above infographics. We encourage you to share this content.

Common Book events and resources

This year’s KU Common Book, Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, offers a powerful framework for thinking about our nation’s history and current challenges related to race. The book represents KU’s purposeful effort to encourage students to engage in conversations on race, diversity, equality and social justice.

We encourage faculty and staff to incorporate the book into their classrooms, and as KU Communicators, you can help make this happen in your department. Visit the Common Book website for information on upcoming Common Book discussions, a blog, a reader’s guide and resources to facilitate conversations about the book.
