Low carbon heating for Firle village
Following a successful funding bid to the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF) BHESCo will be developing a low-carbon heating solution in 22 properties in Firle, where many homes currently rely on dirty oil for heat. We will be designing four shared heat networks where heat is absorbed from beneath the ground and transferred through underground pipes for use in residents' homes by ground source heat pumps installed in each property.
NEW PROJECT: Plumpton College
BHESCo have completed a 97kW rooftop solar project at Plumpton College. The upfront cost of the project was met through a community share offer and the system was installed by our partners at EcoSphere Renewables.
Over their operational lifetime we expect these solar panels to save the school £96,680 on energy bills and reduce CO2 emissions by 547 tonnes - which is equivalent to 603 Trans-Atlantic flights!
Increasing our reach with a new eCargo Bike
Brighton and Hove City Council has made a successful funding bid for 12 new eCargo bikes for the city, one of which will be used by BHESCo to deliver our fuel poverty alleviation work.
Having an eCargo bike means that we can now survey a home and install recommended energy saving measures in a single visit, halving the amount of time taken and doubling the number of people we can support.
NEW PROJECT: Bunker Housing Co-op
BHESCo are delighted to have partnered with Bunker Housing Co-op to help make their two new properties in Brighton generate their own clean electricity and hot water.
In addition to installing a 2.7kW rooftop solar PV system for each home, BHESCo have also fitted hot water cylinders and intelligent diverters to redirect any excess solar power into the cylinders, generating free hot water in sunny periods.
