The Georgia Bikes e-Newsletter

Happy New Year from your friends at Georgia Bikes!

Whether you're an avid fitness cyclist, ride for daily transportation, or you just like to go for a fun spin on Saturdays, we're your voice for a bicycle friendly Georgia, and we're looking forward to an outstanding 2016 in the Peach State.

We've grown - a lot - since our last e-newsletter, and we're thrilled to announce expanded programs and outreach efforts. Read the articles below for more about our motorist education, safe cycling classes, Pocket Guides, and technical assistance for communities who want to create safe, family-friendly places for recreation and active transportation.

Also, be sure to like our Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter for timely updates, news, and resources about bicycling in Georgia.

A sincere thank you to all of our year-end donors, current members, supporting events and partner organizations. Your support is absolutely essential for our work at the state capitol to protect and improve the safety of people on bikes. The 2016 legislative session starts in a few days, so stay tuned for updates, and, perhaps, a call-to-action!

We hope your 2016 is off to a great start, and we welcome your comments and questions for how we can help create a bicycle friendly Georgia. Ride on!

Share the Road tags support bike advocacy

If you've got one of those other kinds of vehicles, consider outfitting it with a Share the Road specialty tag. Proceeds from these tags directly support statewide and local bike safety education and outreach in GA.  Using tag funds, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety is supporting our new Safety Education Programs Manager as well as our law enforcement training courses.

If you have a tag already, let us know and we'll make you an honorary member!

Georgia Bikes partnering with Voices for Healthy Kids

We are very excited to announce a yearlong campaign to help cities throughout Georgia to adopt best practices Complete Streets policies. This educational initiative is generously supported by Voices for Healthy Kids, a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Heart Association. It helps people in communities all across the nation take action to help kids and teens eat healthier foods and be more active. Our campaign is focused on sixteen Georgia cities and aims to educate local leaders in those cities about the benefits of Complete Streets policies that create safe, family-friendly streets for walking and bicycling.

"The goal of this plan is to support active communities where bicycling and walking are safe, healthy, fun, and normal daily activities. The strategies outlined in ARC's plan aim to improve the safety, mobility, and growth of a 21st Century region."

Check it out here and offer your feedback. Comments can be emailed by January 15, 2016 to
