Robert Morris AD Coleman will step away from the Colonials department to return to private psychiatry practice. Coleman, who has led RMU for the past 13 years & also serves as the university's Softball HC, "I'm extremely grateful to the university for the opportunity to have served the athletic department as athletic director and coach." Coleman's official departure date is December 7th, at which time Senior Assoc. AD Galosi will take the reigns on an interim basis while a full search is conducted. (link)
Penn State Deputy AD Esten heads back to his alma mater, DIII St. Thomas (MN), for his first crack at an AD job. Esten will exit once the Nittany Lions FB season is complete, "I have a strong passion for the impact athletics can have on student-athletes and the broader community. Marrying that with my affinity to my alma mater is something I’m really excited about." PSU AD Barbour lauds Esten's contributions in State College & the linked PennLive article indicates Barbour is "likely" to execute a national search to find Esten's replacement. (link, link)
There are 18 calendar days until ECU finishes its 2018 FB season with a kick at N.C. State & Pirates Chancellor Staton says he'd like to have a new AD announced by that time. Staton gave the internal search committee until yesterday to submit its final list of recommendations. Desired traits mentioned: Visionary, transparent, managerial discipline, academic-focused, able to relate to donors, passion for ECU, "an understanding of the 'peculiar' nation we are and someone who proves to be fiscally responsible." Staton also again mentions wanting to find a continuing role for former multi-stop AD & current ECU advisor Hart. (link); ECU Board of Trustees chair Shanahan: "I assure you that every member of our BOT believes that Cecil has done not a good, but a great job. So as we sit here today, he is our chancellor and I think that much of that report was erroneous." (link)
Louisiana AD Maggard hires former New Haven (DII) & NYIT (DII) AD Bailey, who also previously served as Deputy AD/CFO at Seton Hall, for a similar title in Lafayette. Maggard: "His experiences will be a great asset to our department, and we look forward to the leadership he will provide." Bailey: "I'm excited and thankful to Dr. Maggard and President Savoie for the opportunity to join a school and athletics program known across the country for its passionate fan base and vibrant culture." (link)
As we patiently wait for an announcement on UMKC's new AD, the Roos are moving hoops contests back to campus once the calendar year changes. The decision comes after the university invested more than $5M into renovations for Municipal Auditorium just a few years ago. Chancellor Agrawal has not been bashful in publicly stating the athletic department needs to save money & rent at Municipal was running $250K+ annually. (link)
Michigan State MBB HC Izzo questions a push by the NCAA & college basketball leaders to "over-legislate" the game by allowing more freedom of movement on the court. Izzo: "What they want is a big sideshow here. Let's score 150 points, the other team scores 140. … I just think it's sad what we're doing to the game. […] I mean I'm going to say it until I'm blue and then after tonight hopefully never say it because I can't stick up for those guys [the officials] too much you know that's un-American, so I feel for them. I mean it's embarrassing people are booing. … It is not their fault either and I just think we've over-legislated. One thing goes wrong and you over-legislate, we've over-legislated this whole thing right now. Our best players are going to be on the bench. Our best players are going to be ejected. I don't get it. I just don't get it. […] I can't stand the way it is being called, or, the way it is being administered by the people up above." (link)
The Pac-12 & Nike shake hands on a multi-year deal that makes The Swoosh the official athletic apparel partner & footwear partner of the league & its championship events. There's also on-air integration, as well as swagging out the staff. (link)
Latest SBJ: Fanatics has debuted its new 'Fantelligence' product with nine of its partners (Clemson, Florida, Miami (FL), North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas & Texas A&M). Fantelligence is the brainchild of Fermata Partners' Prindiville, "In a lot of the conversations we have with universities, one area we thought we could unlock was recognizing the value in data. It’s always interesting to show athletic departments who their top-10 customers are across Fanatics, and it’s always interesting to see if they recognize any of those names. These are people spending thousands of dollars on team-specific merch, so you’d think the schools would know most of those names, but they often don’t." (link); More on the new hoops digs at Northwestern & Cincinnati, including a bunch of price points for new premium areas. (link); Media headliner Ourand reports neither Fox Sports or Comcast put in a bid for the 22 RSNs on the block. YES Network in the mix to peel off the Yankees piece. Sinclair and....who else for the rest? (link); All three articles are wide open.

Northwestern undergrads will have little reason not to attend the Big Ten Championship game as the Wildcats will provide transportation & a ticket. (link); Georgia announces future home & home FB match-ups with Clemson (2029 & 2030) & Texas (2028 & 2029). Bulldogs HC Smart: "Who knows what the system will be 10 years from now? It certainly could all change. But I would argue that the better schedule you play and the better teams you play against, the more rewarding it will be 10 years from now." (link); The NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament is highlighted by eight ACC squads in the top 16 seeds. Gets started this weekend. (link); The SEC strikes a deal with Nashville to keep its MBB Tourney in Music City USA through 2035. Only exception is 2022 in Tampa. (link)

Western Kentucky AD Stewart describes his job as "traffic director on Times Square" & points to managing his daily schedule as the biggest challenge of the role. Notable mantra: "I have always believed that a rising tide lifts all boats. I do not believe that one program’s success comes at the expense of another one so…any time any of our programs succeed it shines a greater spotlight on the entire campus…and elevates everybody." 2018-19 base pay: $195,576. (link); Also out of Bowling Green are reports second-year FB HC Sanford needs to win his final two games of the season (vs. UTEP & at Louisiana Tech) to retain his job. The Bowling Green Daily News' Stephens says Sanford will exit with two losses, though there's no indication on what happens if the Tops split. (link)
Silly season is fully upon us as more such reports are coming from Denver's ABC affiliate that say Colorado FB HC MacIntyre is completing his last season for the Buffs. Specifically, "Multiple sources have told Denver7 that the University of Colorado will part ways with football coach Mike MacIntyre effective at the end of this season." (link)
Accordingly, Yahoo's Thamel goes in, again, on the HC carousel, runs through the situation at USC where he specifically calls out Trojans Senior Assoc. AD/COO/CFO Lopes for going along with AD Swann on the new contract for FB boss Helton. Thinks North Carolina AD Cunningham will decide to make a change, expects longtime Kansas State HC Snyder to step down, thinks an experienced HC is needed at Maryland, gets feedback that former Terps HC Durkin could land as a DC at a low profile P5 & not cause many media waves, thinks UMass AD Bamford will make a change, more. (link)
Oklahoma State FB HC Gundy with another eye-opener, this time on student-athlete transfers, "I think we live in a world where people are non-committal. We allow liberalism to say, 'Hey, I can really just do what I want and I don’t have to be really tough and fight through it.' You see that with young people because it’s an option they’re given. We weren’t given that option when we were growing up. In the world today, there’s a lot of entitlement. I’m a firm believer in the snowflake. I think it’s setting there. And I’m not talking about Thabo. Thabo and I have had multiple good talks. I’m talking about every millennial young person. Generation Z, I think is what they call ’em. It’s the world we live in because if they say, 'Well, it’s a little bit hard,' we say, 'Okay, well, let’s go try something else.' vs. 'Hey, let’s bear down and let’s fight and do this.' So you see a lot of that nowadays, and that doesn’t have anything to do with Thabo or [Jalen] McCleskey or anybody that’s been on the portal here. That’s just general in society even if you’re working down here at Walmart. Your boss gets after you and tells you that you’re not doing a good job, you may go home and cry and tell your mom, but your mom may say it’s okay. That’s just kind of the facts of life, the world we live in today. Don’t get me on politics." (link)

Options: Bars, restaurants & TVs on the club level. 200 for sale each month. Non-transferable ticket. (link); Current Rival CEO & former Ticketmaster CEO Hubbard's thoughts, "The true test of a great venue is whether it can pull off a concept like this - where the experiences in stadium concourses are better than if you were just watching at home. Food and drink, lounges, etc while funneling the live energy into the non-seated space. I’m all for it." (link)

Harris also discusses being comfortable in uncomfortable positions & the importance of mentorship. Keys: "The people who tend to get promoted or get more responsibilities are those who can, not only identify problems, but who can identify solutions and you can trust them to implement those solutions in the best interest of the department. […] Having difficult conversations when they become necessary is one of the more important aspects of leading. […] It's one thing to make a decision, it's another thing to manage the decision after it has been made." (link)

247Sports' Kansas State publication, GoPowerCat.com, continues its look at former Wildcats FB student-athletes who never received their bowl rings after deciding to leave the program before their eligibility expired. Former KSU freshman Nordell, who transferred out to a junior college, "Growing up, I thought the world of the (K-State) program but I’ve lost some serious respect for it. I know a lot of us feel cheated because we definitely felt that we had a part in the (2017) season. I haven’t got mine yet. They haven’t even reached out and didn’t reply when I messaged them about it. I was pretty disappointed that they didn’t send it to us like they promised. That’s something that you’d want to pass on to your kids." More say the same. (link)

With concussion lawsuits circling college athletics & pro sports, Sports Illustrated legal expert McCann reviews why the NHL settled with a group of litigants. McCann: "…the former NHL players who opt-into the settlement will each receive only up to $22,000 in direct payment, along with as much as $75,000 in reimbursement of medical expenses and, like other retired players […] Unlike the NFL concussion settlement, the NHL concussion settlement does not resolve a class action. Instead, it is intended to conclude 26 similar, but nonetheless separate, lawsuits brought by former NHL players in different jurisdictions across the U.S. […] In the absence of a class action settlement, the NHL could be sued by other former players in different jurisdictions across the U.S. and Canada." More. (link)

(link); Ohio State's Board of Trustees will hear from former students who say they were mistreated by former university doctor Strauss at its next board meeting. (link); Gainesville man arrested for joy riding on a Florida Gators all-terrain cart.
