The NCAA DII FB Committee has determined that the LSC and McKinney (Texas) ISD will host the 2019-21 FB national championship games after the pair successfully hosted the 2018 contest. Committee chair Amos: “The Lone Star Conference and the city of McKinney performed in an outstanding fashion in hosting the 2018 championship despite having a short window of time for preparation. Combine that local effort with such an outstanding facility and it was an easy decision for the committee to make regarding future championships." (link)
Seattle Pacific Assoc. AD Foster touted her business acumen during an in-person interview for the Nebraska Kearney AD job. One of four finalists for the position, Foster identified "community support" as one of UNK's greatest assets and emphasized her budgeting experience in addressing an area of perceived difficulty for UNK: "I have a lot of budget experience. Not necessarily by choice but it definitely is one of my passions, to be able to pull apart an entire athletic department budget and being able to build that back in a way where I could paint that picture to the college administration." (link)
Glenville State tabbed West Liberty FB AC Kellar as the Pioneers' new HC. Kellar, who played for GSC before transferring to Fairmont State, returns to campus with significant DII coaching experience, including head coaching stops at California (PA), Concord and Lenoir-Rhyne. GSC AD Skiles: "We are getting a seasoned and experienced coach that has been very successful as a head coach at multiple stops. I'm also very excited that we are getting a former Pioneer player who has ties to North Central West Virginia." (link)
Purdue Northwest parted ways with 12th-season WBB HC Megyesi, who posted a 7-44 overall record in two DII seasons during the school's transition from NAIA. (link)
LSC-bound Texas A&M International selected Miles CC (NJCAA) WBB HC Vogel to lead its WBB program. Having previously served as an AC at Black Hills State and Maryville, Vogel is no stranger to DII. Dustdevils AD Zimmermann: "His track record of recruiting both nationally and internationally are impressive. The job he did in rebuilding the program at Miles Community College is phenomenal, and we look forward to him bringing that same drive and passion for success here to TAMIU." (link)
In the latest episode of the MIAA's The "A" Team Podcast, Commish Racy talks to Lincoln (MO) AD and MBB HC Moseley about facility upgrades on campus and the importance of student engagement in facility-related conversations. Moseley also identifies the setting of expectations, a changed mindset, and increased community support as factors heavily contributing  to the rise of Lincoln's athletic programs. Additionally, with the Blue Tigers returning to MIAA FB in 2019, Moseley highlights the positive changes around the team and his push to increase the number of FB scholarships available to the program. (link)

Unique situation brewing in the South Central region with West Texas A&M earning the top seed for both the MBB and WBB regionals. Early round play will be split between WTAMU and the 2-seeds in each region -- Colorado Mesa on the women's side and St. Edward's on the men's side. Championship games are pushed back a day to allow for travel from the split sites, while locations for the title tilts are still TBD. (link)
Capitalizing on the growth of esports, ESPN announced the creation of the College Esports Championship, in which players from across North America will compete for a chance to qualify for the May 2019 LAN Championship. ESPN VP of Digital Media Programming Lasker: "As universities continue to grow their esports programs at the varsity, non-varsity and club levels, we're proud to be providing a platform for national exposure and recognition of some of the most talented players in the collegiate space. Through our collaboration with top publishers in the industry, players will be able to showcase their talent in high-level competition on some of the most prominent esports titles." East Stroudsburg announced the 2019-20 addition of the university's 22nd sports program, Women's Acrobatics and Tumbling. ESU becomes the 29th school across the NCAA's three divisions and the NAIA to sponsor the emerging sport. Prez Welsh: "Our institution previously sponsored both men's and women's gymnastics, including two national champion men's gymnastics teams, and we are proud to introduce a sport that includes many of those elements. Along with our women's wrestling program, announced in December, we are glad to be able to add competition options for ESU students at the varsity athletics level and be among the regional and national leaders in emerging sports opportunities." (link)
