Idaho State Prez Satterlee will launch a national search next month for a new AD in Pocatello & Interim AD Thiros will be in the mix. Timeline: Post in January, review applications in early February, narrow pool & have candidates on campus late-February or early-March, then hire. Search committee will be led by VP of Student Affairs Redington & also include Chief of Staff Dunstan, FAR Faure, Track & Field HC Merkley, Track & Field student-athlete Van Vleet-Sturgis, others from across campus. No word of a search firm in the article. (link)
Cleveland State Prez Sands on what he's looking for in a new AD, "I think the relationship between the president and the athletic director is very important. I would prefer partner. That is the word I use. [...] One of the things we’re talking about, as we look at our search for a new athletic director, we’re bringing in an interim (Mike Alden, Missouri) retired from a major college program, SEC school, which should give you some sense of what we’re thinking about here. [...] First and foremost, it has to be someone of incredibly high ethics and integrity. That’s No. 1. Non-negotiable. No. 2, it’s someone who understands the importance of athletics in the greater scheme of our strategic priorities at CSU. Then No. 3, it’s someone who can put the right pieces together, both financially with internal resources, external resources and with the right people. Ultimately it comes down to talent so we can build upon what we already have." A bit more. (link)
UCF AD White maintains his prime position on the wire, says in connection to a potential FB series with Florida, "I think financially, and competitively, it doesn't really make sense for us to play each other. We're going to move on." Sounds like the idea is dead...for now. (link)
North Dakota has its new 2018-2022 "flight plan." Vision: Create champions in the classroom, community and competition while providing a united and diverse culture. Values: Accountability, Integrity, Loyalty. Areas of Focus: Culture, Classroom, Competition, Community. Each has its own strategic goals, which for the Competition vertical includes generating more revenue & facility enhancements. More. (link)
MBB hoops analyst & mid-major advocate Adams rattles off some thoughts on what he sees in the new NET ratings structure. Of note, "The NET average of these seven top spending conferences (P5 + AAC & BIG EAST) is 14% better (69.6 vs. 80.9) than the old system (RPI) based on a sample size of 845 games played by those conferences. [...] The top spending conferences are metrically better under the current sorting tool than they were previously with the RPI. [...] I am saying the NET has some algorithms built in that seems to benefit those teams that play a large majority of their games at home during the non-conference season."(link)
In what looks to be an extension of the "Flutie Effect," home prices around Clemson's campus rose a sharp 9.6% from 2016 to 2017, the same timeframe when the Tigers won a National Championship on the gridiron. A rash of development within walking distance of Death Valley has led to alums & fans alike investing in property for use during the FB season. There's also trend lines of letters being written to existing homeowners in the area wanting to know what price they'd need to sell. One buyer, "The product was beginning to be very good under Dabo and a lot of fun under Dabo and I just told Susan, 'As long as Dabo is the coach here, football is going to be a lot of fun.' And it’s one of our passions. We just said, 'You know what? This just makes too much sense.' It wouldn’t have happened without Dabo." (link)
MBB scheduling at Arizona State reviewed by The Athletic as the Sun Devils prepare to host #1 Kansas tonight on ESPN2. Senior Assoc. AD Cohen leads the charge, but ASU AD Anderson, HC Hurley, AHC Bruno & Special Asst. Wood are all involved. Cohen says Hurley has never vetoed an opponent, which seems a bit hard to believe, but certainly sounds like a more willing scenario than most. The KU series came about two years ago & got inked in Seattle, all ASU parties connected the dots for the recent trip to Georgia & Vanderbilt. (link); Why have Rutgers FB billboards showed up in Dallas, Miami & Santa Clara. They're actually part of the College Football 150th Anniversary marketing campaign.(link)

The senior leadership team at ECU continues to quickly take shape as former Tennessee VC for Communications/Senior Assoc. AD for Communications Robinson heads to Greenville as Executive Assoc. AD for External Operations. Marketing & promotions, social media, ticket sales & ops, media relations & video services, as well as the IMG College relationship will all fall under Robinson's purview. (link)
"We have shown a willingness to be aggressive in regaining coach Littrell and his staff and anticipate having conversations on what that might look like in the coming days." That's North Texas boss Baker on his desire to lock down FB HC Littrell as he prepares to negotiate with heavy-hitting agent Sexton. UAB recently set the top of the Conference USA market with a $1.45M annual commitment to Blazers HC Clark. Looks like Littrell was just a hair under than number this year. (link)
Interesting maybe more so for the actual documents than the comments, here's a good look at performance reviews for Ohio State MBB's staff from last season. Given the Buckeyes' 25-9 performance in the '17-18 season, HC Holtmann received an "exceeds expectations" grade from OSU AD Smith. Holtmann broke down his own time as 50% day-to-day organization & leadership of the program, 30% recruiting & 20% management & leadership of his staff. There's "summary & highlights" notes for the ACs, as well as "Goals & Performance Measures." (link)
WaPo's Culpepper asks of large FB staffs, "What the hell is an analyst?" USC's Colbert answers, "A lot of times, you might be breaking down opponents’ film. You may be making film edits for position coaches. Sometimes you’re watching film with the position coaches. . . . Everybody’s in the same building, generally in the football office and closely accessible. So if a coach needs you to do a study on something or a coach needs you to print out something or look at something, you’re always available." A bit of a warning from Oklahoma HC Riley: "I know there’s some temptation to think the more people you bring in, the better — more people, more hours, more work gets done. But the more people you bring in, the bigger chance there is of having somebody that’s not all-in, not as invested, and I think that can hurt a staff, hurt a team faster than anything." (link)

No evidence was found by the Michigan Attorney General's Office that former Michigan State AD/FB HC/Trustee Perles interfered with or covered up part of the Nassar saga. Perles previously "adamantly denied" the claims made by a woman who said she was abused by Nassar in 1992. (link); The AG's Office also released the 11 names of Michigan State employees who knew about Nassar's behavior. The list includes former Women's Gymnastics HC Klages & a number of MSU trainers/doctors. (link)
An age old question: "How to Motivate Yourself to Do Things You Don’t Want to Do?" Alabama FB HC Saban calls it "discipline." But, time management expert & top-selling author Grace Saunders frames the challenges this way, "The first step is to recognize that getting motivated doesn’t mean that you have to experience a particular feeling, like excitement or anticipation. Instead, motivation is simply one or more reasons you have for acting in a certain way." Grace Saunders rolls through execution examples, like delegating part of the task, putting your low-frequency tasks in front of the high-frequency ones. More. (link)

More from Texas on the news of a new public-private arena that won't cost the athletic department a dime. Gensler will handle design & architecture. Naming rights are already in play & all partners will work out a revenue sharing model for such rights. Longhorns AD Del Conte: "It’s like a baseball stadium. You don’t build it for the weekend series, you build it for the Tuesday game. A 10,000-seat arena is perfect and fantastic for us. A sold-out arena has an unbelievable impact on a men’s basketball or women’s basketball game." Also, Del Conte to UT Prez Fenves, "Today, boss, this is really about your vision. What you wanted for the university is laid out here today. When you looked at putting that RFP out in February, I thought there was no way someone was going to participate in this. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the thinking." (link)
New Mexico State will offer full cost of attendance for FB and 85 corresponding payments for female student-athletes starting next year. Which of the 10 women's teams will get COA is still undecided. The Aggies will offer roughly $500 per athlete, annually, using department reserves to fund it initially. AD Moccia: "We haven't done it yet and I think everybody else has done it. I think that Doug Martin needs some tool in his toolbox when he is recruiting. I think it's critically important if everyone else is doing cost of attendance and you are not, it puts you significantly behind the eight ball." (link)
UNLV has pushed a survey to its FB season ticket holders on potential prices as the Rebels move into the new Las Vegas Stadium in two years. Rebels AD Reed-Francois: "...we want to make sure there are options for everyone to experience the new world-class home. The first step in preparing for that move is asking our loyal season ticket holders as well as our generous benefactors to provide us with critical feedback." (link); Here are some graphics that have been running on the video board during UNLV MBB games to promote the move & 2020's home schedule. (link)
An Oklahoma judge ruled in favor of the NCAA, deciding it wasn't a state actor in the case involving OU FB student-athlete Bledsoe & failed drug tests. The outcome could end Bledsoe's collegiate career after this season. "Bledsoe argued the NCAA’s one-year suspension of him, which included a lost year that has him with no remaining eligibility after this season, infringed upon his substantive property and liberty rights under the Oklahoma Constitution’s Due Process Clause." (link)
CFP expansion thoughts from Outkick the Coverage's Travis, "...would ESPN be willing to put one of the quarterfinal games on ESPN+ and require everyone who wanted to watch the game to sign up for ESPN+? That would be a ballsy move because there would be howls of indignation rising up from everyone across the country, but it’s really the same gameplan ESPN ran to ensure that ESPN and ESPN2 were widely distributed across the country. […] The net result would be millions of new subscribers and tens of millions in direct revenue for the company. But would the college football playoff committee allow a game to air on ESPN+? And would ESPN be willing to suffer the slings and arrows of social media derision and fan grumbling that would come with requiring people to sign up and pay for a digital membership to ESPN+? Also, and this is a big issue, could the streaming service handle an audience of millions and millions of people?" More. (link)

(link); Hawaii's FB team will "most likely break even" for the Hawaii Bowl. The Rainbow Warriors have received $425K from the MWC for hotel rooms, meals, per diem, transportation, gifts for players and other expenses. HC Rolovich could earn as much as $40K for a win. (link); Wednesday night's Frisco Bowl scored a 0.9 rating and 1.45M viewers, up 16% over last year and marking the largest audience in the bowl's five-year history. Thursday's Gasparilla Bowl saw 1.75M viewers on ESPN, up 10% over last year. The Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday saw a 3% dip, as it drew a 0.8 rating and 1.35M viewers, making it the least-watched edition of the five-year-old game. (link)
