Focus on the important, not the urgent.
Sure, makes sense. But, how do you actually do it? Clinical psychologist & author Boyes with an outline: 1) Schedule important tasks & give yourself way more time than you'll need; 2) Isolate the most impactful elements of important tasks; 3) Anticipate & manage feelings of anxiety; 4) Spend less time on unimportant tasks; 5) Prioritize tasks that will reduce your number of urgent, but unimportant tasks; and, 6) Pay attention to what helps you see (and track) the big picture. Boyes, in closing, "I’ve written entire books on how to focus on the big picture and stop self-sabotaging, and I still find it difficult. I consider success as taking my own advice at least 50% of the time! This is a reasonable rule of thumb that you might adopt, too." (link
