Light the Night in Gibsons Landing - Nov. 17
Join the jollification! Prepare to be dazzled when Mayor Wayne Rowe flips the switch at 6pm on Friday, Nov. 17. Hundreds of thousands of lights will illuminate the trees lining Marine Drive and Gower Point Road, with a triumphant shout against the winter darkness. Area merchants are celebrating this professionally-installed display - which will light the night year-round - with a special prize draw for all who visit that evening. Pick up a "passport" at any Landing business, or drop in to GPAG where passports are available along with coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. Get your passport stamped at each shop you visit, then drop it back to GPAG for a chance to win one of four $100 gift certificates from Landing restaurants.

Tim Horton's 2017 Festival of Lights sponsorships open
Every year, Tim Horton's invites local businesses and residents to celebrate the season while supporting a local school or non-profit group. Businesses compete to sponsor and decorate live trees lining the property, or the smaller trees inside the restaurant. Residents are then invited to vote for their favourites. All funds raised through sponsorships or votes are donated to the chosen charity. This year, Cedar Grove Elementary will receive funds raised through the Festival of Lights. For more information, click HERE to download brochure, or contact Christine Hardt, Cedar Grove Elementary PAC Chair.
Travel Ambassadors wrap up another great year
Our Travel Ambassadors celebrated the wrap up of another successful season with a slap-up luncheon at The 101 Brewhouse & Distillery. (Click here to see more photos posted on our Facebook page). These volunteers do valuable work as the first point of contact for many visitors travelling to the Sunshine Coast aboard BC Ferries. Their kiosk aboard the vessels on the Langdale/Horseshoe Bay run provides a wealth of information and advice on attractions, activities, and facilities. Travel Ambassadors provide a warm, friendly introduction to our community.

A special ‘shout out’ to LeRoy Pattison for making sure the kiosks aboard both vessels serving the Sunshine Coast (Queen of Surrey and Queen of Coquitlam) were fully stocked with information, and another ‘shout out’ to the TELUS Ambassadors who provided their van for shipping the material from storage to ferry. And a third round of cheers to the crews of both vessels for their support in hosting the Travel Ambassadors once again.

Recruiting, scheduling and coordinating the volunteers is a huge job, and is ably handled by the amazing team of Bill MacKinnon, Dorothy Fraser, LeRoy Pattison, Christine Tingle, Terry Knight and Jim Johnstone. These are the people who, among other key tasks, gather the statistics at day’s end that are essential to obtaining community and government support for the program.

A rousing cheer for all the volunteers that worked together to welcome visitors (and in some cases, current, new or future residents) to our community. Well done!

Anyone interested in volunteering as a Travel Ambassador for the 2018 season should contact Dorothy Fraser at dotogo@gmail.com.

CapU needs your insight and opinions
The community has been asked to help shape the future educational priorities for the kálax-ay Sunshine Coast Campus of Capilano University. Using PlaceSpeak consultation software, participants will complete polls and surveys and participate in online discussions to help  determine emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in our community, especially pertaining to industry changes and growth. Members of the CapU team are also conducting one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders (the new Sunshine Coast Economic Development Organization and the Chambers among them). Insights and data gathered will be used in the development of a five-year post-secondary course planning and program development guide specific to the Sunshine Coast campus. To find out more, or to participate in the poll, survey, discussions, etc. please CLICK HERE
