WASHINGTON, DC -- Gallery 102 is proud to present Safe(r). Comprised of works by six femme- or woman-identifying artists, Safe(r) is a commentary on the many intersections of space and personal comfortability. The show is curated by Leighah Scully and features works by Laylaa Randera, Nicole Osborne, Rania Hassan, Leighah Scully, Brittni Collins, and Norhan Hawala. Our title is a play on the often polarizing term "safe space," which is frequently misconstrued as feminist oversensitivity; we seek to challenge the common narratives of safety, privacy, and gender through a series of installations that invite the viewer to engage with works which transverse the public versus private border.
Join us at Gallery 102 for a night of refreshments and exploration this Thursday evening, April 13, from 7:00-9:00 pm. (Optional) theme is SLUMBER PARTY to go along with one of the installations--pizza and popcorn provided, feel free to come in PJs; bring your friends, an open mind, and whatever makes you cozy. RSVP through the Facebook event here! See you there!
Exhibition is on view through April 22nd.
Gallery 102 is committed to the exhibiting of contemporary art, including work from GW & Corcoran students, DC-area artists, and nationally recognized artists of all medium. The gallery provides practical curatorial experience to the student body. Students have the opportunity to exhibit work, curate shows, and install exhibitions. The Gallery 102 Committee consists of GW & Corcoran students -- undergraduate and graduate, majors and non-majors, artists and art historians -- who both develop innovative, original, and thought-provoking exhibitions and invite a select group of guest curators to present exhibitions each semester.
