About the Program
This year’s program was curated by a collaboration among the NYC Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics, BetaNYC and Data Through Design, with support from the Jacobs Urban Tech Hub at Cornell Tech. Our schedule is filled with amazing events to engage YOU around NYC Open Data and its many intersections which affect us everyday.

Celebrate with us at the Data Through Design launch party at the Hall (9 Hall St, Brooklyn) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, register here. Throughout the week, be sure to return to view the work artists have done under a theme of “Ground Truth”, which connects data to a physical place and personal experience.

On Saturday, March 5, join us for NYC School of Data.

For the week, here is a smidgen of the amazing events our community has organized for YOU!

“NYC Data Dash” – an NYC Open Real Estate Data Trivia Night - RSVP
Come join Cherre, a real estate data connector, for a night of data ranging, networking, beverages, and trivia! Contestants will team up to compete and use NYC Open Data to answer increasingly hard questions about NYC.

Beyond Static Open Data: A Citi Bike Time Series Case Study - RSVP
In this event, I will show how the data collection system works, and how I keep its operations cheap and worry-free. This data collection system can be reused for other open, real-time APIs. I’ll then show how we can analyze and visualize the data in order to learn about different Citi Bike stations in NYC.

Recommending Schools using NYC Open Data on School Quality - RSVP
Using collaborative filtering, with individual schools and individual attributes, and the application of unsupervised machine learning models, I identify schools which are similar to each other and can be recommended potentially to applicants in the school admissions process.

Let’s explore NYC in augmented reality! - RSVP
How can we learn more about our city through technology? This outdoor event will explore the use of augmented reality (AR), accessible through our smartphones, to view publicly available building information.

Hike and Map along the Staten Island Greenbelt - RSVP
We will be using and sharing a wide range of paper and digital tools to collect data in-person while hiking from St. George’s new NYC Ferry terminal to Great Kills Beach.

Thank you for being a part of our community, we’re extremely excited to see you again. We want to thank all the organizers and presenters for their work. Also, we want to thank the Jacobs Urban Tech Hub at Cornell Tech for openings its doors as a venue for community events. We can’t wait to see you throughout the week.

If you’re looking to connect with others during the week, join BetaNYC’s Slack and stay in touch!

We’ll send you another update next Thursday.
