Dear Dotties,
This month it’s all about the dress.
The beautiful ball gown, the chic sleek, the modern beaded overlay, the short mini, and the tea length vintage inspired.
What is it about the dress that we feel so much pressure to pick the perfect one?
Somehow, we have woven the web that this wedding gown has to sum us up at our very core. Hate tradition? Well of course the message seems to be you must not go near white. Love classic? A ball gown seems to always fit the bill in the glossy narratives.
But what if you hate wedding traditions and spy a white gown you adore? What if you dreamed of a classic wedding and found a gown in silver sparkles? What if you just fall in love with a beautiful gown that is nothing like what you thought you should wear? What is it that you want to convey to the world - this is my gown, this is me.
And while we are pushing endlessly for you to choose elements for your day that are truly you, this message is also about accepting who you are at this very stage of your life. That a wedding day is not the pinnacle of your existence. You are the beautiful you with your frizzy hair, your slightly dodgy ankle, that lovely laugh and oh my, you have gorgeous eyelashes there!
Which is a crazy roundabout way of saying - there are endless beautiful gowns out there. Gowns which make you dream away with their ethereal styling, gowns which are impeccably crafted and look like a piece of art or even jumpsuits off the rack from your local shopping mall.
Find one and fall in love. Wear it with the pride of the gorgeous beauty that you are and twirl (even if you choose pants!) and swish and make the most of wearing something beautiful on a day on when you profess your love.
I think this current version of you is my favourite.
Love, Ms Polka x
