As the leaves turn golden brown, it has all of us in the Polka Dot offices thinking about this underplayed element of nature - greenery.
Greenery and botanicals, of course, encompass so many beautiful varieties of foliage - from the delicate and sweet-smelling leaves of jasmine to the bold banana leaf, but yet, somehow, despite its lack of pretty petals, flowering buds and blooms, greenery holds a certain kind of magic.
There is nothing about foliage that is bold and bright and screams "look it at me"; it is far more understated, and for me, the understated, the timeless and the quiet are far more precious. Greenery to me is the support for the bright blooms. The beauty that stays in the background, never asking for commendation, but instead doing what it does beautifully, knowing it has its own special kind of place in the world.
The magic of foliage? It’s just as varied and as individual as your love of flowers. Sweet smelling herbs, soft greys of dusty miller, deep greens of ivy - every leaf tells its own story and gives its own unique look to the day.
Think majestic hanging installations that are as lush as the forest canopy, bouquets of greenery that sweetly smell of Mother Nature, gorgeous garlands massed along long tables.
And of course - there is something about greenery and botanicals that act as a neutral background. Particularly stunning with creams taupes and greys, they can also look just as beautiful with blush and cranberry reds - or even metallics.
Let your imagination run wild as you consider adding a little greenery to your day.
Yours in Autumn leaves,
Ms Polka Dot
