IOM may assist in Nauru-Cambodia refugee relocation

 
 

IOM has announced that at the request of three of its Member States - Cambodia, Nauru and Australia – it will develop a program aimed at facilitating the relocation and integration of refugees from Nauru to Cambodia. Read more on the press release here


 


  

Australian Human Rights Commission releases - The Forgotten Children report

  
 

Earlier on this month the Australian Human Rights Commission released the report - The Forgotten Children. The report details incidents of gross mental illness, development delays, sexual assaults and self-harm happening to children kept in detention. Over 1129 interviews were conducted with children and families in compiling the report. Click here to read on the Forgotten Children report
 

United Nations group defends Gillian Triggs

 
 

The United Nation's working group on arbitrary detention has commended the work by the commission in its latest report (The Forgotten Children), saying it considers the commission's statements on international law and human rights as "highly authoritative and their findings reliable". Sisters of Charity to develop asylum-seeker housing



 

The Sisters of Charity Foundation has embarked on a partnership with the Asylum Seekers Centre to develop emergency housing for asylum seekers. The Foundation has invested close to $3 million to purchase a residential building which will be used exclusively by the Asylum Seekers Centre for emergency and transitional housing. Click here to read more

 

Hundreds of refugees dead in Mediterranean and still Europe won't act




Helen O'Nions, Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University writes about the refugees that have recently died at sea while trying to cross the Mediterranean. She states that this incidents shows that “Europe has still not worked out how to identify when a migrant is a refugee or how to help them. It also exposes serious double standards about economic migration.” Click here for the full article
