Wild Whatcom

November Outings

November reminds us of the deep resonance of traditions, relationships, and the cycle of life. The wheel of the year turns again in a show of Nature's long-term memory; daylight dwindles, leaves fall, fungi erupt, salmon return to their native streams and animals prepare for their journeys. The rain returns, soaking everything and everyone!

All these things are connected by observable threads of relationship, yet so many processes must go on unseen to nurture future growth. We can see how the cool darkness of fall rain results in beautiful and amazing mushrooms. Can we also recognize how our memories inform our own traditions?

See you on the trail,

Join a pack of wild ladies for the last Ladies Night Out this year! Migration and hibernation are our themes this month as we watch squirrels scurry, geese fly by, and salmon swim upstream. Do you wander in search of meaningful moments or prepare to hunker down at this time of year? We'll ponder how these natural cycles emerge in our own lives and keep an eye out for Kokanee salmon returning home on our walk along the lake shore.

Save time by completing our Agreement of Risk and Liability Release and bring it with you. We'll need one for each person!

Summer 2018 Backpack Trips - Immunization Reminder

Joining us next summer on a backpack trip? Remember:

For extended backpacking trips lasting longer than 36 consecutive hours, a tetanus booster within the last 5 years AND a current copy of your child's Immunization Record showing a full primary tetanus vaccine series is required to participate. No exceptions to tetanus policy will be allowed for extended backpacking trips as it would require evacuation of any participant who sustains any skin wound since tetanus spores are present in soil and can occur even with a minor wound in individuals not immunized to tetanus.

For participants planning to register for one of our summer extended backpacking trips, please note a seven (7) month window is needed in order to get the full series of tetanus. Immunization records may be submitted via email or postal mail prior to your child exploring with us.

Summer 2018 schedule will be available by the end of the year. Registration opens March 2018!
