Meatless meat, meet eggless eggs
Everyone knows Burger King’s “Impossible Whopper” by now, but here’s a less-reported food innovation that could also make a significant positive climate impact. Just, a company that makes eggless eggs from mung beans, has partnered with Sodexo, the international food service provider that serves 75 million meals a day at 34,000 locations worldwide. Together, they’ll bring plant-based eggs to schools, office buildings, hospitals and other institutions. According to Just, the plant-based eggs use 98% less water and 83% less land, and emit 93% less carbon dioxide than conventional eggs. As an optimist, I’ll take my innovation sunny-side up.

British aviation industry outlines plans for net-zero emissions by 2050
Why it matters: “The UK is well positioned to become one of the leaders in the green technologies of the future, including sustainable aviation fuels and electric flight.” To reach its ambitious 2050 target, the British aviation industry will need to increase the efficiency of its aircraft as well as its use of aviation biofuels. The plan is backed by some of the biggest names in the business including Rolls Royce, easyJet and Airbus.

New blockchain pilot project to decrease plastic waste
Why it matters: A recent Deloitte report says that if present trends continue, Canada will dispose of $11.1 billion worth of plastic materials each year by 2030. This pilot project will use blockchain to introduce a more sustainable alternative by decreasing plastic waste, maximizing its value and enhancing resource efficiency.
