As the Society and the NED implement “Everyone in Harmony”, our contests this year will include a variety of opportunities for both Mixed and Women’s quartets and choruses. All the contests for Men’s quartets and choruses will remain the same as in the past.
Spring Prelims for quartets will be different in 2020. A quartet will be allowed to compete in Spring Prelims in either the Eastern or Western Regional but only in one of them – your choice. This is a precursor to 2021 when quartets (and choruses) will be allowed to enter as many as two contests while attempting to obtain a qualifying score (but not this year).
In 2020 the qualifying score for quartets to attend the International Quartet Contest in Los Angeles has been raised from 76 to 78. Should no quartet in the NED achieve the 78 Qualifying Score, then the highest scoring quartet from the district will be invited as long as they have achieved a score of at least 70. For choruses the qualifying score has been raised also but it does not impact choruses until Fall of this year so we will provide details on that, later.
Plan ahead now for attending the NED Fall District convention & contests in Saint John, New Brunswick!
Anything and everything for the competitor individual, manager and those who follow the whole contest process will find ALL the information you need there. It is authored and edited by the NED VP-Contest and Judging, Alan Lamson. It contains information and stats for use in making decisions about the competition for you, your quartet or chorus. It is also available for everyone else interested in the "official" side of the events.
