Local and Regional Governments engage towards a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction
The preparations for the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction that will take place from 14th to 18th March 2015 in Sendai, Japan are entering their final phase. Several Local and Regional Governments have expressed their wish to take part in the proceedings of this conference, since they are on the front line in the event of disasters and have an increasingly important role to play in protecting people, property and infrastructure.
UCLG has an important role in the preparatory work of this conference, particularly in the two Preparatory Committee meetings (PrepCom). The first was held in Geneva in July and the second will take place this November.
Members wishing to register and take part in the proceedings of the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction may do so through one of three procedures:
- As part of a national delegation;
- By accreditation through UCLG;
- By applying for special accreditation from the organizers directly, which will allow them to participate in the public meetings and those organized by the partners, but not the intergovernmental meetings.
​During the conference, a Public Forum will be dedicated to symposiums, seminars, debates, exhibitions and spaces to present experiences. Our members have the opportunity to present one or more initiative within this framework by 16th September at the latest.

Registration for the second PrepCom
 The second Preparatory Committee meeting will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 17th-18th November 2014. The deadline for registration for this meeting is 10th September.
Members wishing to participate in the next Preparatory Committee meeting (PrepCom 2) should complete the form attached and return it to us at m.boussraoui@uclg.org no later than 9th September, as registration will close on 10th September.
Local elected officials who are part of a national delegation do not need to register separately.

World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction
The preparations for the World Conference that will take place from 14th to 18th March in Sendai, Japan are underway. Apart from the official round tables, several multilateral events focusing on local and urban resilience are being planned for the Conference.
Registration for the World Conference will be open until 30th November. We will keep you informed about the registration process for the Conference.
