Racing Season Has Begun

The NHL season is now in full swing, most leaves have fallen down from the trees and temperatures are dropping fast here in the Great White North. It can only mean one thing: slot car season has begun. It's time to get your cars ready to get on that podium you were so close of reaching last year. Or time to send in your cars for that proxy race you decided to try. Whatever the reason, Slot Car Corner Canada is here to help you get those cars running great. Have fun!

MR Slotcar

A big box full of MR Slotcar parts came in recently and they're ready to be put to good use in your cars. MR Slotcar gears, in particular, are gaining in popularity as great replacements for Slot.it and NSR gears. Very well made and light, they could be your ticket to a race win or two if you use a sidewinder or an anglewinder setup.

Pinions are available in brass and steel, and also for 1.5 and 2.0mm motor shafts. We also have a nice selection of the Mazda 787B in 6 different colours, along with black, white and Renown versions (both of them). We'll also have in stock the upcoming new cars from MR Slotcar as soon as they're available.

Paul Gage XPG Tires

Last month, we added Paul Gage standard tires to our inventory, another great Canadian-made slot car product. Since some of you have told us that you liked Paul Gage tires but that you preferred to use the Extreme Grip variety (XPG), we're happy to tell you that they're not in stock. Every model made is available in both compounds, depending on what you're looking for.

PG Tires are available at $4/pair and we have all available sizes in stock (or will have very very soon). To help you choose the right size of Paul Gage tires that go with our CB Design wheels, we've added them to our very informative and useful Wheel-Tire Chart. You can download it here (in PDF format).

Slot.It Jaguar XJR12 - Suntec

The Jaguar XJR12 is a sport-prototype racing car, born in 1990 to replace the XJR9. It will be in stock soon at Slot Car Corner Canada and you can pre-order it right now. Looks fast, doesn't it?!

This model featured a carbon fiber monocoque chassis. The engine was a V12 engine with two valves per cylinder. In 1990, displacement was 6 liters for the IMSA version and 7 liters in the Group C configuration; these values were increased in 1991, becoming 6.5 liters for the American version and 7.4 for the European one, whose weight was respectively 930 and 1000 kg.

The XJR12 was employed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in particular for the long distance races, such as Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, as this car was very reliable and regular in race trim. The car was a superb racer: in 1990, it finished 1st and 2nd in the Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hours races, and in 3rd place at Sebring. Later on, it finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place at Le Mans in 1991, and in 2nd at Daytona in 1992.

The car number 36, colour 'british racing green' and sponsored by Suntec, was a surprise in the entry list of the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours. Its most experienced driver was David Leslie who drove with two pilots coming from Japanese F3000 championship, Mauro Martini and Jeff Krosnoff.

Axle Spacers Are Important

Beginners, and even some experienced racers, sometime forget that spacers are very important in setting up a good-running car. Lateral axle play is detrimental to a car's handling and is often the source of rattling noise coming out of the car when it runs. By eliminating lateral play, you'll also make sure that the tires won't touch the body wheel arches when the car is turning. Using low-cost axle spacers to remove that movement will surely help.

They're also very useful when you want to remove some friction between the bushing/bushing holder and the spur gear. By putting a very thin spacer between the two, the friction surface will be reduced and you'll get less resistance from the running gear. Don't forget that the same principles apply to the front axle, which is as important as the rear axle to get a good running car.

We have 5 different thicknesses for axle spacers, from 0.005" to 0.100". In steel, nylon or aluminum, they should be a part of every slotter's tool box. Get yours now.
