Keeping In Touch

Summer will soon be over, unfortunately. For most of us here in Canada, that means more time around the track running cars and tuning them to the best of our abilities. A race night with friends is always fun!

Here at Slot Car Corner Canada, we had a pretty busy summer preparing for the new racing season. Many of you took a break from slot car racing and from ordering new cars and parts but we took this time to refill our shelves with a lot of new products and are ready to ship them all over our great country. Have fun !

You are receiving this newsletter because you are a wonderful Slot Car Corner Canada customer. This means you made a purchase or created an account on our website. See the link at the bottom of the newsletter to be removed from our list or to update your subscription information.

New Price on SCC Bronze Bushings

Our own SCC Bronze Bushings are the best out there. They are just the right size to get a Slot.it axle running freely without any slop. Great news! The pricing for those is now $3.50/pair, down from the previous pricing of $4.50/pair. And that new pricing is there to stay forever.

But wait, there's more! Until September 30th, if you buy two pairs, you'll get one completely free. That's $7.00 for something that would have cost you $13.50 a few months ago. It's time to get all the bushings you'll need in the next few months (or years!).

(Please note the extra pair will be added at checkout)

You Will Love Our New Sanding Blocks

We now have a brand new product available, and it's made right here in Canada. Our Universal Sanding Blocks and Tire Truer Sanding Blocks have been available for a few weeks already.

Sanding tires and other parts of a slot car is an integral part of the tuning process. Everyone has different methods for doing this but sanding paper is always involved. We're offering very sturdy sanding blocks made in aluminum, with 3 different sanding grits available (100, 240, 400). They will become an essential tool in your slot car box. Ours are.

The universal blocks are 2" x 5" and fit in any slot box. We also have smaller sanding blocks for tire truers like the Tire Razor or the Area 3, also available with 3 different sanding grits. You can purchase them individually or as a set of 3 to save some money.

New CB Design Wheels - Classic Steel in 14x6 and 14x8 Sizes

Our own CB Design Classic Steel wheels are now available in two new sizes. The smaller 14x6 and 14x8mm wheel sizes will fit perfectly on smaller classic cars that you may have in your collection. They're in stock now. Start upgrading your classic cars to finally get them running smoothly!

In addition to those new wheels, we continue to have a large inventory of CB Design Wheels. You know you can choose from many designs and sizes. See for yourself why CB Design wheels are considered by most to be the best after-market wheels you can buy. A lot of proxy racers and most endurance racers don't want to use anything else.

Built strong and with very tight tolerances, CB Design wheels will transform the handling of your cars. And the black wheels are back on the shelves for many designs and sizes.

Paul Gage Tires - How To Choose ?

Paul Gage urethane tires are more popular than ever. With the wide selection now available and new sizes coming out on a regular basis, it's now easier to find the right tire for your needs. And we're proud to say that they're also made right here in Canada. And they're really affordable too, making them a good choice for a large car collection.

But many customers are still not sure how to choose the right model when they're confronted with the long list of available models. Here's a simple guide that will serve as a starting point for your tire shopping.

Digits 1-2: the outer diameter of the tire in mm (when mounted on a 15mm wheel)
Digits 3-4: the maximum width of the tire in mm (including the rounded edge)
Digit 5: the width of the central rib in mm (usually 1.0mm in thickness, depending on the wheel)

When the model number is followed by letters, this is what the letters mean:
XD: designates a tire with a deeper center groove for wheels with a taller center rib (1.5mm)
XXD: designates a tire with an even deeper center groove for wheels with a very tall center rib (2.0mm)
LM: designates a tire with a larger center opening (lower profile sidewalls)
FF: designates an F1 series tire with the fatter sidewalls
SE: designates a tire with a new sidewall style designed to have more of a “street look” typical of bias ply and early radial tires
V: designates small vintage size tires with 2.0mm grooves (e.g. Scalex 50’s F1, MGB, 300SLR, CBD 14x6)

Diameter and Width
The center opening of most tires is around 11mm in diameter (13mm for LM tires). Of course, they stretch easily to fit over most wheels. Usually, you should choose a tire that is around 2mm more in width than the wheel itself, for the rounded sidewall to look good. But if you want to go narrower or wider, depending on what you're trying to achieve with your car, it works OK too. By choosing a larger diameter with the same width and central rib, you get a bigger tire (make sure it doesn't rub inside the wheels wells).

Central Rib
You can easily measure the width of the central rib on the wheel you want your tires to fit on. As a general rule, Scalextric usually uses 4mm ribs. For Slot.it, NSR and Racer wheels, you usually choose 5mm ribs. Most popular CB Design wheels also use a 5mm central rib but there are exceptions, like the 15x11 and 15x12 that use a wider 6mm rib (see our Wheel-Tire Chart below for reference). Smaller wheels like the 14x7 or 15x7 use 3 or 4mm central rib.

Carrera and Monogram cars usually have a thicker central rib on their wheels and that's when the XD and XXD tires come into play. The standard central rib is 1.0mm thick and fits most cars and aftermarket wheels.

Example
Let's use the 21105 tire as an example. On a 15mm wheel, its outer diameter is 21mm. Since its width is 10mm, it fits perfectly on a 15x8 wheel. It could also fit on a 15x10 wheel but the tire contact patch will then be narrower than the wheel itself, even if the sidewalls will cover the entire wheel width. This tire could also be stretched to go on the 17x8 wheel but its outer diameter will then be larger than 21mm. All those wheels have a 5mm-wide central rib.

PGT or XPG?
PGT is the standard urethane compound from Paul Gage. If you want more performance, at the cost of a slightly higher wear rate, go for the Extreme compound (XPG) . Softer and stickier, it will give you the edge you need for a race win at your next start!

M/T Racing Motors Are Back in Stock

For classic racing or racing on a smaller track, the most recent motors from the popular manufacturer are too fast. What's needed is a motor with lots of torque, less power and a smooth delivery. That's where M/T Racing motors come into play. Slower motors often means more control, closer racing, realistic speeds, even more control and a whole lot of fun!

If you want more speed, just dial the power up on the power supply and you'll get lots of control from these motors. The best part is that they are very inexpensive compared to other motors on the market. They're easy to replace and you'll get brand new cars out of the operation. We have large quantities ready for shipping.

New Products from Slot.It

This brand new product from Slot.it is far from spectacular but it could prove to be of the most useful new products of the year, in our opinion. This clamshell case for cars can hold and protect most 1/32 cars on the market.

Made with a transparent plastic, including a moulded base to protect the guide, the braids, the wheels and the tires (they won't get squeezed and lose their «roundness»!) and two foam pieces to squeeze the car into the case, it's perfect for sending your car to a proxy organizer, for shipping a car that you just sold on eBay or for protecting the car while you're on your way to a local track to meet fellow racers. It's simple, effective and cheap. What's not to like?

Also added to our Slot.it inventory this past summer were the Bronze Bushings for Carrera and Scalextric cars, the 29k V12/3 Inline Can Drive Motor, the SCP-2 Controller, the Pro Extractor Upgrade and the Extraction Plate & Counter Bushing for the Slot.it Pinion Press/Puller. Of course, we also added a lot of cars but you'll have to see below for those.

THE CARS THAT YOU MISSED THIS SUMMER...

If you took a break from slot car racing this summer (and we all did up to a certain point!), you missed some great car releases. Here's a list of new or back-in-stock cars that weren't on our shelves when our last newsletter was sent out in May. They're all in stock now so it's time to catch up.

Slot.It - McLaren M8D - Laguna Seca 1971

The M8D was a prototype race car, built in 1970 by McLaren Cars to compete in the Can-Am Challenge Cup. In comparison with the former 'M8', the M8D was wider and with a lower wing, which was also braced to the chassis, as the high mounted, suspension attached wings had been banned. Chassis was an aluminium sheet monocoque with steel bulkheads and stressed engine. Bodywork was in glass-fibre. The engine was a Chevrolet with Lucas fuel injection, prepared by George Bolthoff; it was a 7.6 litres V8 yielding 680 Hp of maximum power.

The Castrol Monterey Grand Prix of Laguna Seca was the ninth and penultimate race of the 1971 Can-Am season. Vic Elford raced for Roy Woods Racing Team driving a M8D for the first time since the previous year, having driven all previous races with American Racing Associates' M8E.

In 1990, displacement was 6 liters for the IMSA version and 7 liters in the Group C configuration; these values were increased in 1991, becoming 6.5 liters for the American version and 7.4 for the European one, whose weight was respectively 930 and 1000 kg.

The XJR12 was employed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in particular for the long distance races, such as Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, as this car was very reliable and regular in race trim. The car was a superb racer: in 1990, it finished 1st and 2nd in the Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hours races, and in 3rd place at Sebring. Later on, it finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place at Le Mans in 1991, and in 2nd at Daytona in 1992.
