New Music

Some of our favorite recent releases.

True Blue

Mark Ronson (Ft. Angel Olsen)

My picks this week are on the mainstream side but that doesn't make them any less good. Sure, Mark Ronson is known for things like "Shallow" from A Star is Born or songs by Miley Cyrus, but this recent collaboration with Angel Olsen is damn good.

Ray recommends...

Black Bull

A very new release by FOALS. A bit harder than I typically like, and not quite as catchy as "Exits", but still damn good.

Brian recommends...

Summer Girl

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you know HAIM already by now, but this brand new song is sweet, catchy and has a great beat. Give it a shot.

Ray recommends...

Rocket Fuel

DJ Shadow (featuring De La Soul)

An absolutely amazing song with a great beat. I've only heard a few DJ Shadow songs but I need to find some time to dig into his work more.

New to You and Throwbacks

These are some our favorites that are not necessarily new.

Brian recommends...

JD & The Evil's Dynamite Band

If my first two picks are mainstream, this one from 2013 is pretty darn obscure and very minimalist.

Ray recommends...

The Reflex (Extended Dance Mix)

Duran Duran

I picked this song not because it's the best Duran Duran song (I'd need a lot of time to figure out which is my favorite), but because it was the first time I heard a "remix". While I'm not sure it was *this* particular remix, I can still remember hearing the song, a song I knew well, and then... it changed. I had not even heard of remixes at that time. It completely blew my (roughly) ten year old mind.

Brian recommends...

Boy's Life

Small Black

This one isn't that old, coming out in 2015, but was totally new to me (I guess since I never played Watch Dogs 2, which featured the song in its soundtrack)

Ray recommends...

El Diablo

Arcadia was the short-lived offshoot from Duran Duran. The album is very much like any other Duran Duran album, if a bit more melodic and dark than a usual DD record.
