What's New With Us - Trip Reports

We've spent the month of December in the southwest mostly dry camping. First up was a few days relaxing at the Salton Sea on Corvina Beach then over to Ogilby Road BLM for another week of mellow boondocking
Once recharged from our long journey south we headed over and set up camp for an extended 2-week stay at a favorite Arizona State Park - Lost Dutchman. The views and sunsets are among the best you'll find in the southwest. Last winter's one week stay was so fantastic we just had to come back for a return visit. (Find more info and a video in last years blog post)
It's a popular busy park close to Phoenix so book early. I booked a few months in advance to secure a campsite over Christmas. We paid $20 a night for a large dry camping site. 2-week max stay.
We didn't spend the whole month roughing it though. For 3 days mid-month while waiting to go to Lost Dutchman we enjoyed RV resort living and the pool & hot tub at a place called Canyon Vistas RV Resort. Its located in Gold Canyon near Apache Junction, Arizona

Having just turned 55 a few months back this was my first 55+ RV park. :) We also celebrated Anne's birthday and our anniversary there as a treat. Using our Passport America card helped, giving us a 50% discount on the normal rate of $75 bucks a night! They honor Passport America up until Jan 1st.

It's a large place, mostly seasonal campsites, and park model homes. The short-term area was pretty spartan looking but large sites and a decent view of the mountains. I'd recommend t if you can get the Passport America rate and want a secure base to leave the RV and explore the area from.
January will see us head back out into the more rural desert in search of some peaceful boondocking away from the city and the crowds. Stay tuned.

To see it in action check out my video from Ogiliby Road BLM

RVing Tip of the Month

Great little tip sent to me by a fellow RVer named Rick. To see more of the tips Rick shared check out this post on Love Your RV -  Ray

Pin Box height stick
I haven’t seen anyone else use this method for determining pin box height when hitching up. Lean 1 x2 against pin box plate. Start cranking. When stick falls over, you are at the correct height to hitch up
The stick also doubles as my “Slide Ruler”; get it”? haha…
