What's New With Us

This month saw us finally get a good wallop of winter, even here on the west coast. You can see from the graph below that both day and night temps were well below the seasonal averages for about a week.
On the bright side, it was a chance to test out all my winter add-ons and prep. Overall, things work out extremely well. The Cougar stayed warm and dry inside with no plumbing freeze-ups.

Outside was a winter wonderland. I got myself out on one of the nicest days for a walk along the coast. I took the video camera along and snagged some footage for you around the local marina and out onto the Tyee Spit.
The snow only lasted a few days, and soon the big melt was on as things quickly warmed up even better than normal with a high of 10C (50F) one day. It got me looking forward to March and the warmer days of spring.
When stuck inside the rig, I continued with my 2011/12 Throwback video series with stops along the FLA Gulf Coast, New Orleans, Big Bend NP Texas, and into New Mexico. Only a couple of months left to complete the full-year trip.
The month finished with the arrival of a cool new electronic gadget to play with! I was able to get a hold of one of the early beta versions of SpaceX's Starlink internet satellite kits. It holds the promise of someday being able to provide super high-speed internet service almost anywhere.

Setup was dead simple, and within 15 minutes, I was online with an internet connection being beamed down from space.
Be warned this system currently is NOT suited for traveling as it's meant to be used at a single address or location. If you venture too far away, it fails to connect. It does look like as the technology matures and they get more satellites into orbit, a mobile offering is in the works. Or at least a plan where you can update the address when you arrive at your destination.

This would be a game-changer for RVers who desire fast internet even out in the middle of nowhere or, say, in dead cell locations such as National Parks. I'm excited to have a chance to test out this cutting-edge piece of gear. Stay tuned as I'll be reporting how it works for us.

So far, it's been blazing fast, with download speeds often well over 100 Mbps.

Surprisingly these little birds can tough out the winter here!
I got this close-up photo as it perched near our feeder.

RVing Tip of the Month

A beautiful idea for an addition to the RV kitchen counter by RV Solar posted on the LYRV forum

"We were looking at putting a flip-down table
on the end of our counter peninsula so we found a local
sawmill. We picked up a very nice live edge cedar."
Funny of the Month

Got a chuckle out of this sign someone posted in the nearby creek.
Restoration projects underway. That's what's up with the fence.

Thanks for reading the February LYRV newsletter.
Hope you are doing well. Spring is on the horizon!
