What's New With Us

It's been a mixed bag this month. We've had our share of gorgeous clear summer days mixed with stretches of smoke filled skies. There are near record number of fires burning in BC. Even though we are quite far from them and they pose no threat fire-wise, that doesn't stop the smoke from occasionally ruining the day. It got so thick a few times the sun looked like a dim orange orb.
We even spent several days cooped up in the rig with all the windows and vents closed using the AC fan to recirculate the air. I was happy that I had installed the new RV Air AC filter, it worked great filtering the inside air.
I've had my usual fun puttering around the RV. There is never a shortage of maintenance and repairs to do especially now that the trailer is over seven years old. This summer seems to be all about plumbing. Lots of time spent under the RV on my back working on valves and tanks.

I think I have things all ship shape now and ready for our winter travels. Better done when it's warm and stationary than on the road that's for sure.

New Camcorder!

I splurged this month and bought myself a long overdue upgrade to the Love Your RV blogging arsenal. After a ton of research, I settled on the Sony FDR-AX53 camcorder. You can learn about my reasons for choosing it in this recent blog post.
I'm hoping it improves the overall quality of my videos for you, especially the sound now that I can attach an external mic and windscreen. I've had fun binge watching tutorial videos learning about all the cool features. :)

Where is the new truck?

I'm getting asked often these days " Where is the new truck!?" I think some of you are more excited than we are about it, haha. Well, we ordered it in late June, and they told us the usual time for a factory order is three months, so we were expecting it to arrive sometime in late September.
Our dealer is keeping me updated via text messages, and the latest is the truck has been built and past final inspection. Now it's waiting to get loaded on a train rail car. Estimated to arrive in Vancouver, BC first to mid-October and to our dealer in Campbell River mid to late October.

Seems like an awfully long time to ship it from the Ram truck plant in Saltillo, Mexico but I have heard there is a shortage of rail cars causing a backlog. Guess we'll hope for the best. Stay tuned...

Flickr is a photo sharing website that has been around forever on the internet. It's useful for scouting out an area to see what attractions may be worth a visit. Just search for the place you are visiting. You can also follow people and see where they have been and what interesting things they discovered.
If you join, they offer 1 Terabyte in photo storage space for free. Not a bad deal and an easy way to share travels with family and friends.

RVing Tip of the Month

After seven years of full time living our RVs kitchen sinks have taken a beating. Made of a white plastic material they slowly became stained and scratched up pretty good especially on the bottoms. I tried various cleaners designed for kitchens and bathrooms with little luck.

While brainstorming a solution I remembered I had one time used toothpaste to remove an iron stain in our porcelain toilet. It worked like a hot damn. Quickly and completely removed the stain.

I figured it was worth a try on the sinks. So I grabbed a tube and gave them good polishing and rinse and what do you know it worked pretty well.

The scratches weren't entirely removed, but it made a significant difference giving the plastic RV sinks a much-refreshed look. I guess the toothpaste has just the right amount of grit to it. I figure it will likely work well on many other plastic items around the RV, so something to keep in mind.

Note: Cleaning with toothpaste isn't advisable on newer sinks and plastics that still have a smooth gel coat on them as the toothpaste is gritty enough to damage or remove it. The tip is for older sinks where the gel coating has already worn off naturally with age and use.
