What's New With Us

And they are off. We left Vancouver Island on November 6th aboard the Coho ferry out of Victoria harbor. We eagerly looked forward to another adventurous RV snowbird season. Our 7th in a row. The scene couldn't have been more picture perfect and calm.
Since then we've worked our way all the way down to Bakersfield, California. The weather has slowly been improving, warming up on each hop south. Jackets and rain gear have gradually been replaced with sweaters and t-shirts. Not quite short pants yet, but getting there.

This fall was even wetter than usual on the Oregon Coast, but we still had a few breaks here and there to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Just when you are sick of the rain, the clouds part and you couldn't think of a better place to be. We also filled our bellies and RV freezer with fresh seafood. One big thing we miss during our time in the desert.
There was one little member of our crew that was super pleased to feel the sand between her toes. Angie is almost 15 now but still game for a romp on the beach.
Unfortunately, a little after we made the turn inland at Eureka in northern California some bad luck struck. Our truck "Big Blue" died. We had stopped for sandwiches at a favorite little roadside cafe called The Peg House in the middle of the thick coastal forest. Went to leave and the truck died and wouldn't start again. We spent more than a day on the side of the road in pouring rain.
Luckily we have a good roadside emergency plan with BCAA and had the truck and trailer towed 50 miles to Willits CA. The culprit turned out to be an inexpensive fuel lift pump. It was replaced for $250 and the truck was back in service the next day.

Thankfully since the breakdown things have been uneventful on the mechanical/travel front. Blue has once again faithfully dragged our house another 500+ miles south.
Here is a list of places we've camped at and prices paid for a night:
Little Creek Casino, Shelton, Washington - Free
Tillamook Airport RV Park, Oregon - Usually $15 but closed for the season. We arrived after dark and raining so overnighted in the parking area for free.
Pleasant Valley RV Park, Tillamook OR - $29 winter rates
Three Rivers Casino, Florence OR - Free
Turtle Rock RV Resort, Gold Beach OR - $20 Passport America winter rate
Bear River Casino, Eureka CA - Free
Side of Road, Highway 101 CA - Free
Willits KOA, California - $55
Happy Time RV Park, Dunnigan CA - $25
Friends Driveway, Hollister CA - Free
Orange Grove RV Park, Bakersfield CA - $38

In a day or so we will make the trip over the Tehachapi Pass and into the Mojave desert. I already have a few boondocking spots picked out to explore. Stay tuned...

Love Your RV! Turns 5

My little RVing blog came into being late November 2012. I could never have imagined at the time I'd still be plugging away at it five years later. It now contains 490 published blog posts and over 300 videos. Thanks to all the tremendous feedback I've gotten over the years. It has really motivated me to keep going. I love hearing how my blog has inspired or helped out.

As a way to give back to my fellow RVers who follow along, support me and consume my content, I've decided to giveaway an extra cell phone booster kit I have kicking around the RV.
Last year you may remember I reviewed two weBoost systems - The Trucker Essentials Kit and the RV Kit. I'm keeping the RV kit and the trucker antenna but offering as a giveaway a lightly used weBoost Drive 4G-X kit valued at  $479 USD. It can be used the way it is or else purchase the larger optional antennas of your choice for extra range.

All subscribers to my monthly Love Your RV! newsletter will be automatically entered to win. I'll pick an active subscriber at random on the 7th of December and get it shipped right out to the winner. Good Luck! Thanks for subscribing.

Ray's Pick - Helpful RVing Website of the Month

http://www.tides4fishing.com

This site is useful for those RV trips that take us to the coast. While it is aimed at the fisherman, it is also handy for anyone planning activities on the coast. I was blown away by the amount of information contained on the page and how neatly it is displayed. Pick a location and scroll down to take a look.

RVing Tip of the Month

Consider packing a set of reflective roadside safety triangles in the RV. Hopefully, you never need them. But if you do you'll be glad you have them. I sure was. A little peace of mind that we weren't going to get plowed into by an inattentive driver.
