What's New With Us
This December has been one of the best. It's always a celebratory month as our anniversary as a couple falls on the 14th and Anne's birthday is the next day, then there is Christmas. December also is the month we've finished the long drive south from BC and have started to enjoy sunny, warmer weather. This year was extra special though as Anne was turning 50. But if you see her, I said 40, OK. ;)

|
The first half of the month was spent dry camping in three gorgeous natural locations. Two were old favs: Corvina Beach on the Salton Sea and Belle Campground in Joshua Tree National Park.
|
|
The third was brand new to us, Sawtooth Canyon BLM Campground. Locate south of Barstow in the high desert of southern California. Unfortunately, we were chased off after a short visit by some cooling weather with a forecast of strong winds. Sawtooth is definitely added to the favorites list for a return visit, maybe in the spring.

On December 13th we dropped off the beagle and our rig with some good friends in Mojave, California and headed out on a 4-day romantic getaway. I had booked us a room at the Mt Ada Bed and Breakfast on Catalina Island. We braved the LA traffic down to Long Beach, spent the night at a Hyatt Hotel and the next morning grabbed the Catalina Express ferry over to Avalon.

|
We spent two magical days on Catalina Island in full-on vacation relaxation mode being treated like royalty, drinking in the views and gorging on gourmet food. Anne said it was her best birthday ever. Major brownie points were earned by yours truly. :)

After the whirlwind getaway, we drove back to Mojave, grabbed a spoiled beagle (thanks to our friend Lola) and trekked back down to the Palms Springs area. We booked into the Oasis Palms RV Resort, the same park we spent a whole month at last year.
It's a Passport America park, so we took advantage of our membership for four days of 1/2 price camping, $20 a night for full hookups. It was nice to reconnect with old friends and meet many new folks around the nightly happy hour firepit.

|
We departed Oasis Palms on Christmas Eve day and set up at a free BLM (Bureau of Land Management) camping area around 10 miles west of Yuma, AZ. This was the first Christmas we've spent out of an RV park since becoming full-time RVers. We enjoyed the peace and serenity of a starry night in the desert. It was kind of cool!

The next morning, Santa had come!! He and Anne spoiled me rotten this year with RVing goodies. Guess it pays to take your girl to Catalina (26 Miles Song)

A December to remember for sure. The month did have one black mark on it, though. A mouse decided to commit suicide in our furnace fan at 1:30 in the morning the night before our Catalina trip. Check the recent post link for the grisly details including clean up and modifications I made.
Well, that wraps up the year. Happy New Year everyone! Stay tuned for more new RV product reviews next month as I go through my Christmas loot.
