Hello, and welcome to the August Newsletter. Thanks for taking a peek.

What's New With Us

August has flown by, can't believe its already coming up on Labor Day and into September. Soon the kids will head back to school, and the summer vacationers will dwindle. I'm looking forward to the less busy shoulder-season.
Anne and I spent parts of August visiting with family, both hers and mine. We got several enjoyable visits in, which is nice since we spend winters away from loved ones.
I was also a busy beaver finishing up a couple of product reviews, notably our new lithium batteries from Lion Energy, and tending to multiple mods & repairs to our older fifth wheel.
As the rig ages, upkeep is getting more and more time-consuming. Luckily, its something I enjoy. Learning to do it myself has saved a ton of cash over the years.

Hopefully, everything will be shipshape by early November when we usually head south. The less maintenance required on the road, the better.

Handy RV Repair Product

West System G/Flex 655 Thickened Epoxy

The other day I purchased some G/Flex 655 Epoxy at a local boatyard marine supply shop to try and fix small cracks in my waste tanks. I'm hoping it's going to be just the ticket. Stay tuned for a video coming soon.

Last year's repair attempt using a product called Plasti-Mend didn't hold up. After only a few months, the cracks returned. Over the course of our 6 months snowbird trip, I had to reapply several times to prevent leaks.

(Link to the West Systems website G/Flex 655 info page)

"A toughened, versatile epoxy that is conveniently pre-thickened for permanent waterproof bonding of plastic, fiberglass, ceramics, metals, damp and difficult-to-bond woods. With a modulus of elasticity of 150,000 PSI, it is a bit more flexible than standard epoxies and polyester, but much stiffer than adhesive sealants. This gives G/flex 655 the ability to make structural bonds that can absorb the stress of expansion, contraction, shock, and vibration. It is ideal for bonding dissimilar materials. Mixed at a 1:1 ratio, G/flex 655 gives you 45 minutes of working time at 72°F. It reaches an initial cure in 7 to 10 hours and full cure in 24 hours."
Figure it would also be a good thing to have on board the RV for repairs or emergency patch jobs. For example, add a little fiberglass cloth in layers and fix a torn fender or other damage. Repair a stripped screw hole by filling the hole with epoxy then drilling out a new pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw.
