"Look what I made!"
You Can Help Us Change Lives

Can you hear the hard work, the mistakes, the learning, the struggles, and finally the pride and confidence that comes with the success of making something? "Look what I made!" is what we hear a lot at Decatur Makers and it's the reason we do what we do.

We are in the business of empowering our community to be curious problem-solvers through hands-on exploration, inspiration, and innovation to positively impact their lives and our communities.

By Dec 31, 2019, we are trying to raise $15,000 to get more people of all ages creating and learning by building and making.

You can make a difference!

If you're looking to make a tax-deductible donation this year, we'd love if you'd please consider a gift to Decatur Makers (no amount too small!). Thank you!

Decatur Makers Testimonial of the month:

Do you DIY? Want to meet others who like to make things themselves and are willing to pass along their knowledge? Then this is the place where you can swap experience and get advice along with access to tools and space you most likely don't have at home.

What We're Making

Vintage Japanese fishing globes picked by member Will and, after getting a hole cut in them by Matt at Janke Glass Studio, designed them into a chandelier for a beach rental property. So creative!

Member Amy, who also teaches our leathercrafting classes, made this beautiful purse. So well done! You can find some of Amy's items at AzaleanLeather on Etsy. #shopsmall #smallbusinessowner

We love seeing our youth members making all kinds of things, including exploring with art!

What We're Sharing

We hosted three STEAM Outreach events this school semester with a youth group from the International Rescue Committee (IRC). In partnership with a group of students from Georgia Tech, we helped these kids learn about circuits and solder a motor, switch and battery pack together, as well as design and lasercut parts for their own version of the Hungry Hungry Hippo game to collect magnets. They were creative and persevered through failures to have a really successful time!
The Woodlands Garden, currently under construction, needs to build some moveable bollards, structures to block a driveway, that they can use once they re-open. They reached out to Decatur Makers to brainstorm creative solutions. Of course we obliged! It's the beginning of another beautiful community partnership.
For the third year in a row, we hosted 7th graders from Renfroe Middle School during their annual Science Day exploration.  They started with a simple catapult build, and were tasked with improving the design to shoot with accuracy and precision. #MakerKidsRock #ProblemSolving #STEMeducation

Our Sponsor

A big THANK YOU to our wonderful sponsor, Stability Engineering, for their continued support! They provide deep and broad experience in the design and analysis of residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, adaptive reuse and LEED-certified green buildings. We really appreciate their interest in helping our community empower kids and adults to create and learn thru hands-on making experiences.
