Come and have a fun filled holiday party, with an Improv comedy event, food and activities. You are encouraged to bring your better-half to the party.

The 3-person gangster improv session is interactive and will promote participation by the guests. Several guests will be called up on stage to stand in as characters in the show. Information like nicknames, hobbies, running jokes, little funny tidbits, will be weaved into the story line for an interactive show with active participation from the audience.

Each year, the CFANS Mentor Program, hosted by the CFANS Alumni Society, matches approximately 200 students and post-docs with alumni and industry professionals who share valuable career insights and guidance. Through this award-winning program, students and post-docs explore possible career paths, learn how to build their professional networks, and enhance their professional skills.

The CFANS Mentor Program welcomes all enrolled students (undergrad, grad and post-doc) and professionals (alumni and non-alumni) of CFANS related fields to apply.  All applicants are intentionally matched to help mentees achieve their professional goals led by the experience and wisdom of their mentor.  As a mentor-mentee pair, participants will;

  • connect with their mentor/mentee once per month for at least one hour (November-May)
  • maintain regular communication between meetings
  • identify goals for the student or post-docs' career exploration
  • participate in a job-shadow hosted or arranged by the mentor

Mentoring in this program happens across many fields including;

  • Animal Science
  • Plant Science
  • Food Science and Nutrition
  • Agricultural and Food Business Management
  • Forestry
  • Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology 
  • Agricultural and Environmental Education
  • And more

Macy Award

The IFT Minnesota Section has the privilege of recognizing an outstanding example of technology transfer/cooperation between food scientists each year by way of the Macy award.  This is the first year where nominations can be submitted by going to the IFT Minnesota Section website. ( The purpose of the award is to advance the profession and practice of food technology and to honor Harold Macy, Dean Emeritus of the University of Minnesota and a founding member of IFT.  Awardees will be invited to address the Minnesota Section of IFT.  The award consists of a $2500 honorarium and travel expenses.  Please consider nominating someone you know deserving of the award.

Call for Silent Auction Committee Volunteers:
MN IFT Silent Auction

This is a call to all members, especially students to be part of the silent auction committee. The Silent Auction is Scheduled to be held on February 6, 2019 at the Metropolitan in Minneapolis. In preparation for this event, the silent auction committee solicits for donations, organizes solicited donations and plan the organization of the event itself. Members are therefore requested to volunteer some of their time with the Silent Auction committee

Committee members will have the following responsibilities:

  • Help the committee identify companies to solicit for donations
  • Know what companies you are assigned to contact (these will have donated last year)
  • Contact the companies to ask for donations
    • You can use the “ask” letter provided
    • You can use the background information deck provided
  • For each donation, gather the following information for the spreadsheet: donor, item name, item description, item value
  • Make sure you provide the company with the following information
    • Due date for having donated item in hand
    • How you will pick up the donation
    • Receipt for their donation
