Welcome to 2019! After the excitement of Christmas and New Years we get to settle in to manifest new beginnings and really think about changes we want to make. This time is an opportunity to go slowly before we fill up the space with 'doing' and 'things'. When we've had a break from the 'normal' routine there is a gap to consider what we value and we can start to live our lives more congruent and in line with those values.

During 2018 I have been studying Health Coaching at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition - New York. This has been one of the best study experiences in my career, in line with my values and what I want to offer to others in my work and in my life. The Health Coaching compliments my Naturopathy that I've been practicing for 20 years and gives me the scope to practice very individually and personally. I am offering complimentary Health consults for those interested to see if they want to embarking on a journey of health and self fulfilment. Consults are available to Women who want to improve nutrition, wellbeing, find some peace and calm, want to connect with their core values and essence so they feel vitality, joy and connection.

I am aiming to offer some free talks locally, on Health & Wellbeing, so look out for news of those on Facebook if your interested.

The day includes 2 hours of a Restorative Yoga session, Pranayama and Meditation, 1 hour of Treatments - Reflexology and Neck & shoulder massage and a sumptuous lunch. I think most of you that attend class know of the benefits of doing yoga even once per week. Create a short basic practice at home - 20mins to experience the benefits even more! It doesn't take much to slot a short sequence in and your body and mind will love it.

Health Matters

Post Festive Season Detox

Most of us tend to overindulge in the summer holiday period. And its not only food and alcohol but late nights, socialising and generally extravert behaviour. How can we create some balance and put into practice some of our New Years resolutions? A few tips to get you started...

  • Warm lemon and ginger in the morning
  • Drink plenty of good quality water
  • Smoothy for breakfast or bircher muesli (see recipe below)
  • Salad each day
  • Fresh juice each day
  • Add lots of greens i.e. spinach, kale, rocket, lettuce greens, herbs etc
  • Protein snacks i.e. eggs, avocado, pesto, hummus, cashew cheese, nuts, seeds etc
  • Eat whole grains i.e. brown rice, quinoa, millet and buckwheat
  • Predominately plant based meals with legumes, eggs, grain, protein
  • Use dates, coconut sugar, honey to sweeten rather than sugar
  • Try sugar free, wheat free, dairy free and vegetarian - not as hard as you think!
  • Activity and exercise to move toxins out and increase circulation
  • Leave 2-3 hours between dinner and getting horizontal for bed
  • Body brush before showering to get the skin breathing and improve circulation
  • Get a tongue scrapper from the health food shop to clean the tongue of toxins each morning
  • Have some quiet and reflective time throughout the day to really start to explore what you'd like to create and form in 2019. New year = new beginnings
  • Give yourself plenty of time for good and restful sleep.
  • Deep breathing helps to clean the system
  • Daily meditation

Bircher Muesli

I grew up on bircher muesli, my healthy mum was ahead with her nutritional know how and made 99% of our food from scratch. For those of you that are not familiar with this soaked and activated breakfast, it was 'invented' by a Swiss man in the early 1900's who was looking for health. Soaking overnight makes the food more alive, nutritious and easier to digest. This a very healthy and nutritious breakfast for the warmed months.
You can pretty much add anything to the oats i.e. fruit, nuts and seeds of your choice. 
Below is my recipe that I like;

 
  • Organic rolled oats
  • Pepitas
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Chia seeds
  • Almonds
  • Dates
  • Sultanas
Soak all this overnight in water. Quantities are up to you.
Then add in the morning;
  • Grated apple
  • Mashed banana
  • Any other fruit of your choice i.e. berries go well
  • Coconut or dairy yoghurt
  • Almond or coconut milk or water
  • Top with toasted coconut flakes
