Happy, joyous, creative, inspiring and interesting New Year! I hope you have had a restful, connecting and enriching festive season. New beginnings is the time for reflecting on what what we are doing and if it is aligned with who and what we wish to be. The start of a new cycle is an opportunity to review what supports us to do what we love, and our enrichment and growth. It is a time for setting intentions and manifesting dreams. I like to give you you something to contemplate so here is an Astrological overview according to Forever Conscious.

"If 2017 was a year of new beginnings, 2018 is going to be a year of building, restructuring, and manifestation.

Whatever new beginnings we have had to start or introduce into our lives, we are now going to be given the opportunity to start building on them, and laying the foundation for the life we want to lead. 

Seeing as 2018 is a number 11 year in numerology, we are really going to be supported to start dreaming and conjuring up what we want from life.

Even though part of our journey here is decided before we come into human form, we also have free will and the opportunity to create our lives.

Our lives are created through our mindset and through our energy. The more we focus on something, the more energy we put into something, the more likely we are to see results.

We simply cannot be in the mindset of- once I have everything figured out, then I will be happy- as this will result in a never ending chase. Instead, we need to find ways to feel good now, and the rest will follow. 

2018 is a busy year in astrology, largely due to the fact that two key planets- Saturn and Uranus will shift into Earth signs, giving us a host of prominent planets under the influence of Earth energy.

This earthy energy is going to help all of us to start building up a foundation and bringing structure and order to our lives.

Many of us would have experienced upheaval and big change over the last few years, and now all of this Earth energy is going to help us find our feet and get grounded.

Earth energy is going to beckon all of us to get grounded and rooted. After a few years of strong “death and rebirth” energy, we are now going to have to focus on planting seeds and getting grounded with wherever we are.

We all have our own mountain to climb and journey to take, and it seems that 2018 is going to help us to really make some efficient progress by simply moving one foot in front of the other. 

Overall, 2018 is going to be about building and laying down a new foundation. We are going to be asked to move slowly and steadily and to focus on getting grounded.

We are also going to have the power and capability to really manifest and put out what it is that we want into the world.

Earth energy is all about making things tangible and material, so if you have a goal, if you have a dream, this will be the year that you can really start making steps to turn your dream into your reality."

Yoga as therapy

Students often arrive to yoga to improve their health in some way. It can be stress, stiffness and a desire to calm the mind and stretch the body. People can also be recovering from severe injury or illness. Yoga is an ancient healing art and was put forward by Patanjali in order to live in health and tranquility.
Yoga is extremely beneficial in assisting and aiding recovery, especially Iyengar yoga, which can be very therapeutic and remedial. Iyengar yoga uses props to help students move into poses and support recovery.
Sometimes it is required and recommended that a student attend private sessions to learn how to support and assist themselves within a class. The benefit of one on one sessions allows a student to become aware of limitations and how to modify poses to suit recovery.
BKS Iyengar developed his yoga out of a need to support his own health and then others. He would look around him to see what he could use to open the back, hips, heal stiff knees etc. He used bricks, wheels, chairs, sticks and in time developed the props that we use in Iyengar classes. It is common in a class to see people doing the same pose but in different variations and with different levels of support. Overall Iyengar yoga is therapeutic on many levels and generally 
yoga acts as a preventative art in keeping the body healthy and firm, mind clear and clean with emotional stability.

Health Matters

Baby Detox
So post christmas we generally feel like we've enjoyed socialising to the maximum. Work parties, family functions, holiday relaxing and letting go, with excess of food, alcohol, and generally having a break from our normal routine. We also review the past year and make new commitments to health and set intentions for the change we would like to see. New year and the warmer months is a good time to do a baby detox, not too intense but so that we flow into the new year with vitality and a clear mind. A week or 2 will leaving you feeling refreshed and energised.
Some suggestions and recommendations are:
  • Salad each day with lots of raw vegetables and fruit, nuts, seed, avocado, legumes, quinoa,
  • A fresh juice each day with things like carrot, apple, celery, cucumber, lemon & ginger, or pineapple, mint, kale and orange, or mint, lime, cucumber and coconut water in the blender. Lots of recipes on the internet.
  • Greens each day whether in a juice, salad or smoothie i.e. Kale, spinach, mint, parsley, basil, coriander, rocket, lettuce greens etc
  • Smoothie optional but yummy i.e. coconut water, few spoons of yoghurt(coconut or dairy), green powder such as Vital greens, banana, fresh or frozen berries, almond meal, tsp coconut oil, handful of greens i.e. spinach, parsley, rocket (yes I put into smoothies), fresh or dried dates and whatever else take your fancy. Try different combinations.
  • 1/2 Lemon on rising in water or in juice or salad dressings
  • Add good fats i.e., coconut oil, hemp oil, flaxseed oil, macadamia oil, avocado oil, pumpkin seed oil, ghee and olive oil
  • Nuts and seeds - as long as you are able to digest and don't feel bloated and gaseous. If you don't often consume them, start off on smaller quantities.
  • Whole grains i.e . Brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat
  • Healthy proteins i.e. Avocado, nuts & seeds, eggs, beans, legumes, tofu, tempeh, chicken, fish, hommus, Pesto, feta
  • Liquid Liver formula ie Liverplex - don't use this if you have complex medical issues and are on medications.
  • Avoid refined sugar, refined grains, coffee, alcohol, processed fats, limit wheat products and gluten.

Superfood Kale Garden Salad


  • 1 bunch kale, washed and roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • pinch salt and pepper
  • 3 small radishes, finely sliced
  • 1 small bunch of grapes, cut in half
  • handful of cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • 4 spring onions, finely sliced
  • 1/2 orange, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 carrot, cut into strips or noodles
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cabbage
Additional dressing ingredients
  • 2 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 TBSP balsamic vinegar 
  • a pinch of chili flakes
  • handful of goji berries and sunflower sprouts
  • small handful each: almonds, sunflower seeds, pepitas


  1. Add the kale to a bowl with 1 TBSP olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper and massage for about 1 minute until it softens.
  2. Wash, chop and prepare all the other fruits and veggies. Add them to the bowl.
  3. Add the remaining dressing ingredients and toss thoroughly to coat everything in everything.
  4. Top with the nuts and seeds and enjoy to the max!
