Summer Reading...at home

While you are reading at home this summer please join us as we Imagine Your Story at home.  Log your reading online and you will be entered to win some great prizes such as a bike, a Nintendo Switch, a Kindle Fire, an Amazon gift card or gift cards from local businesses.  Again this year, children who complete will receive a free book and teens who complete will receive a scratch-off prize ticket.  All prizes can be picked up at the library when the library reopens and for three months thereafter.  Visit our

Virtual Library Cards
Warren residents cannot currently come into our libraries to get a library card, but can still use some of our popular electronic resources by applying for a virtual library card.  This card will allow temporary access to some of our eResources including:  OverDrive, Freegal, RBdigital, and databases.  It will also allow you to participate in our Imagine Your Story at home Summer Reading Program.
Note:  To get full access to all library materials (including Hoopla and the ability to check out physical items) you will need to stop by the circulation desk at any Warren Public Library location once the libraries reopen and fill out an application.  To get a virtual library card, click on the link below.

Warren Public Library - Coronavirus Updates

Information About Holds, Due Dates, Card Expiration

1. Mobile Hotspots – All mobile hotspots can be returned (this one time) to the library’s drop box.

2. Holds – Holds are not able to be picked up while we are closed. Because we are checking in items that are returned you may receive a message that your hold has been made available. Please be aware that while you cannot pick it up while we are closed your hold will be available to you when we reopen.


3. Holds Items that were not picked up – If you were unable or did not want to pick up items that were on the holds shelf when we closed those items will still be available to you when we reopen.

4. Due Dates (updated 5-27-20) – Due dates on Warren Public Library materials, as well as items from other Suburban Library Cooperative Libraries have been extended to June 30.  Items loaned through the MeL inter-library loan service have also been extended to June 30. Please check your account online or use our automated renewal line at 877.270.1273 to check your account.

5. Library cards that were set to expire soon have been extended to June 30 (updated 5-27-20).

Download audiobooks and eBooks using OverDrive

Use your library for access to thousands of eBooks for your smartphone, tablets and eReaders (i.e. iPad, Nook or Kindle) and eAudiobooks for your computer or portable media player (i.e. MP3 player, iPod or smartphone).  The library's eBooks and eAudiobooks can be enjoyed at home, work or on the go.  To get started with eBooks and eAudiobooks, you need:
  • A valid Warren Public Library card
  • Access to the Internet
  • Free software for the device or computer you wish to use with our eBooks
  • A valid email address so you can be notified when titles you request are available

Digital Magazines available with RBdigital

**The RBdigital app is available for free at your app store**
With RBdigital you can easily check out and read full digital copies of over 90 magazines including Cosmopolitan, Forbes, and National Geographic.  Magazines can be viewed on a computer or on many mobile devices including tablets and smartphones.  Best of all, you keep the magazines in your account as long as you want - they never expire and there are no overdue fees.  You must have a valid Warren Public Library card to use RBdigital.

To use RBdigital, you will need to create an account.
  1. Click here to go to our RBdigital page.
  2. Click Create New Account near the top right.
  3. Enter your name, library card number, email address and create a password.
  4. Browse and select a magazine you want to checkout.
  5. Click Start Reading.  You will now be able to read your magazine.


Download audiobooks with RBdigital Audiobooks

Audiobooks from RBdigital include many bestselling authors, including C.J. Box, Alexander McCall Smith, Charlaine Harris, and many more.  With over 35,000 audiobooks to choose from you are bound to find a great book to listen to.

What's the best part of RBdigital audiobooks?  There is no waiting.  Any book you find can be immediately checked out and listened to - there is no holds list.  You can access RBdigital audiobooks from any web browser.  Apps are available for iOS, Android, and Kindle devices.

Note:  if you already were using RBdigital Magazines, be sure to use your same email address to create your account that you used for RBdigital Magazines.  This way your magazines that you had checked out will transfer to the new platform.


Movies, TV episodes, Graphic Novels, eAudiobooks, and more available with hoopla

Hoopla is a digital platform that offers immediate access to a wide variety of eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, comics & graphic novels, movies, and TV episodes.  All of this content is available to Warren Public Library cardholders through the hoopla website or mobile app (available for both iOS and Android).  Best of all, there is NO WAITING for titles.  The collection contains half a million titles and is growing every day.  All of this content is available 24/7 to Warren Public Library cardholders.  You can check out 6 items per month.  To access hoopla, click

Download music using Freegal
Using Freegal, you can download and keep music directly from the library.  You can also stream music.  Freegal allows you to download up to 5 songs per week.  These songs are in the MP3 format, are yours to keep, and can be used on a variety of devices.  Additionally, you can stream up to 3 hours of music per day.  All it takes is a valid Warren Public Library card to use Freegal.

Dial 586.203.8725 or 1.877.270.1273 (for southeast Michigan only) and follow the prompts to renew your materials, list available holds ready for pickup, information concerning fines, list of materials checked out, change your pin number, and to hear library hours (Please note:  All Warren Public Libraries are closed until further notice).  You will need your library card number and PIN to access the Sirsi Voice Automation (SVA) system.

2020 Census
Now more than ever it is very important for every person to be counted in the 2020 census.  Completing the census form will ensure that Warren receives the federal dollars needed to support health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid, education programs like Head Start and school lunch, and literacy programs.  It can even help our roads.  In addition the results of the 2020 census will determine the number of seats Michigan has in Congress and will effect your political representation at all levels of government.
Completing the survey is quick and easy.  There are nine questions and should take approximately ten minutes.  You can complete the survey online at 
www.my2020census.gov or by phone at 844-330-2020 using the twelve digit code mailed to you.

Take the time to be counted today.

Warren Book Club

While our libraries are closed the Warren Public Library is offering an online book club.


WPL Adult Book Club

While the library is closed, we are offering an online book club for adults.  Book selections will be picked from Hoopla and will be available as both an eBook and eAudiobook depending on your preference. Hoopla allows three checkouts per month with your Warren library card and everything is always available which ensures the availability of the chosen book. Ancestry Library Edition - Remote Access Available through June 30
One of the most popular databases at the Warren Public Library is Ancestry Library Edition. This genealogical database is used by many to look up census records from 1790-1940 , draft cards, ship passenger lists, and much more.
This database was only available for in-library use, but due to the unprecedented shut down of libraries across the state, Ancestry is offering remote access to Warren Public Library cardholders for a limited time. Follow the steps below to access Ancestry Library Edition from home.
1. Visit our online library catalog by using the
 Library Catalog link or using the My Account login box from our website.
2. When you visit our catalog, check the upper-right portion of the screen. If logged in, you will see your name. If not, click Log In.
3. After logging in, the Ancestry link will be revealed. Click the Ancestry – Remote Access Link at the top of the left-hand box to access Ancestry Library Edition.



ALLDATA

Global Road Warrior

Pronunciator - Language Learning Database
With Pronunciator, you can learn over 80 languages as well as study English (ESL) for 50 languages.  It features speech recognition, scored quizzes, a virtual coach, downloadable MP3s, and virtual conversations.  You can log into this database at home using your Warren Public Library card.  To access Pronunciator, click here.


Need homework help?  The Warren Public Library offers Tutor.com, a program that provides students of all ages live, one-to-one help from professional tutors online.  Any community member with a library card can use Tutor.com's Learning Suite from any computer or mobile device connected to the Internet by visiting their library's website and clicking on Tutor.com.  You will need your library card number and your PIN number.  To obtain your PIN number, please visit any Warren Public Library branch with your library card.  PIN numbers cannot be given out over the phone.

The Tutor.com Learning Suite, a service of The Princeton Review, combines on-demand, real-time tutoring with several self-study tools to create a robust, personalized learning or job search experience.  The live, online tutoring and job search support is available 7 days a week from 4 pm to 11 pm.  Many other features such as The Princeton Review's SAT/ACT Essentials Test Prep is available 24/7.

Friends

Due to the COVID-19 safety recommendations all events are postponed until further notice.

The Annual Meeting has been postponed.  Please watch the Friends website for updates.


The Friends of the Warren Public Library hold used book sales at the Old Village Fire Hall, 5961 Beebe Street (north of 13 Mile Road and East of Mound).  Items for sale include used hardbound and paperback books, CDs, videos, etc. for all ages.  Donations are also accepted at the sales.  Proceeds benefit the Warren Public Library.  Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the book store will remained closed until further notice.  Donations are not being accepted at this time.


The Friends now have a website:

where you can learn about the Friends, print a membership application, get information about the book store, and read interesting tid bits about reading.  Please visit the site today.

Join the Friends
For a small donation you can become a member of the Friends of the Warren Public Library.  To join, simply click 
here to get the application, fill it out and turn it in at the book store or any of our library branches when we reopen.

The Friends Kids Club
If you are between the ages of 0 - 13 you can join the Friends of the Warren Public Library for just $1.00 per year. Once you turn in your completed application along with your $1.00, you will be given a special Kids Club card. Bring this card with you whenever you visit the bookstore and you will get up to 12 free children's books a year.  To join, simply click 
here to print the membership form, fill it out and turn it in at the book store or any of our library branches when we reopen.

You can register your Kroger card and a portion of your purchases will be donated to the Friends of the Warren Public Library.  Your card must be renewed every year.  If you have not done so, please log into your account and renew your commitment.  To register your card, please do the following:
1.  Go to 
Kroger.com
2. Click on the tab labeled community.
3. In the drop box, click on community rewards.
4. If you are doing this for the first time, register your card with the program and pick Friends of the Warren Public Library.
5. If you are renewing your commitment, go to account summary.
6. Here you can edit any of your personal information, but be sure to go all the way down to your Organization.
7. It is here that you re-write Friends of the Warren Public Library.
8. The organization number should also show:  91075.

Amazon Smile
You can support the Friends of the Warren Public Library by using the Amazon Smile program.  Visit the Amazon Smile website at
