PULSE OF THE PARISH

News from Kenya and the Marsabbit Diocese

Bishop Qampicha Wario and his wife Safia from the Marsabbit Diocese of the Anglican Church of Kenya share greetings and an encouraging gospel message with CCA in today's Pulse. Bishop Qampicha and Safia shared about their lives and ministry with a small group at CCA on Tuesday evening.  Their ministry and needs are encouraging and also compellingly challenging.  Please explore the website for Tumaini Christian Academy that Bishop Qampicha founded and now has over 500 students in Sololo Kenya:  www.KCEP.info.  Prayerfully consider supporting this ministry.  Fr. Craig will be visiting Bishop Qampicha in Kenya in November, as he travels with the Rev. Canon John MacDonald.  To support this trip, you can make a donation to the church for "Rector's Travels."

LIFE TOGETHER

Men's Oktoberfest Beer Tasting
Friday, October 7, 6 -9 PM, The Whitefield Center

The theme of the beer tasting is Oktoberfest featuring  a variety of German beers celebrating the season as well as any worthy beers from other countries who likewise celebrate Oktoberfest including the USA. As always, we ask that each man bring something to share for eating. The spread has always been generous and very tasty and this one will be no exception. Any leftover beers will be shared among participants at the end of the evening. We start at 6 and go until we have finished.

RSVP and remember to pay the $20.00 for the beer sampling.

Women's Renew: A Seat at the Table
Saturday, October 8, 9:30 - 11:30 AM, The Whitefield Center

How wonderful it would be if Jesus came to our homes for a meal as he often did with people in scripture. Sharing thoughts and conversation around the table allows for deeper conversation and sharing. With those things in mind, Renew has a new format and location. Please come to the Whitefield Center and join other women in a small groups around a table for food and thoughtful fellowship. We will look at scripture where Jesus visited in people’s homes for a meal and discuss the scriptures and application to our lives. Saturday, October 8, 9:30-11:30 a.m., The Whitefield Center.

Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 9, 3:30 PM, The Whitefield Center

Does your pet need prayer? It may not get your turtle out of its shell or your cat off the car, but a blessing will ask for the Lord to keep your beloved pet in His care for health, joy and long life for its sake and for your family's blessing too. All pets are welcome to come and receive a blessing from one of our clergy.

“The godly care for their animals” Proverbs 12:10

The Blessing of the Animals is a tradition associated with the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi (Oct 4th) who is known for his affection for and ministry to animals. Upon hearing from Mark's gospel the words of Jesus, "And he said to them, 'Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation,'" (16:15) Francis began from then on to preach the gospel to people as well as to animals. This is one reason he is known for blessing animals. He gave up all possessions yet appreciated and celebrated all creation!

Banns of Marriage
The ancient custom of announcing the wedding publicly at least three times, also known as the “Banns of Marriage,” bids the prayers and support of the community. This speaks to the great necessity for the whole body of Christ to support those joined in Holy Matrimony and their witness in Church and in society.

“We publish the Banns of Marriage between the following, Ellen Grace Jorgenson and Phillip Michael McClure and we bid your prayers on their behalf. If any of you know cause, or just impediment, why these two persons should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, you are to declare it. This is the first time of asking.” – Fr. Craig Stephans
