Autumn is awesome! I'm sure that's the way many of us feel as we get outside and explore the fall colours. In the spirit of the season, EECOM's Board of Directors would like to offer our sincere thanks for all of the incredible work you do to ensure Canadians are environmentally literate, engaged in environmental stewardship and contributing to a healthy, sustainable future.

To help us to advance our work at the national scale and to provide you with many benefits such as a national environmental learning community, access to resources, and leadership opportunities, we would like to encourage you to join EECOM or renew your membership. EECOM memberships are valid from July 1 - June 30 annually. Memberships purchased in conjunction with the 2017 conference will be valid from July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2018. If you aren't an current EECOM member, please click here to renew your membership today. Call for Proposals is now open!

Do you have ideas or work to share on how innovative learning inspires connection to nature, more sustainable lifestyles, resilient communities and/or a life-giving planet? You are invited to propose a workshop or presentation proposal for the SEE Change conference in May 2017. The conference is a partnership of the Canadian Network for Environmental Education, the Canadian Network for Ocean Educators, and the Nova Scotia Environmental Network Education Caucus. Check out the workshop streams, conference keynotes and the Call for Proposals at http://eecom.org/2017-conference/. Divert Nova Scotia is a major sponsor.

There will be a wide range of sessions, all the way from hands-on and outdoors, to community-based, to round table, to research and policy. The conference is hosted by Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, a thriving community rooted in traditional cultures, small farms and the spectacular natural setting of the Bay of Fundy. More than 30 educators from across the region and the country have been working for a year to organize a mind-blowing conference. We hope to see you there!

Let's Talk Energy
Engaging Ideas for Canada's Future

In our EE (energy efficient!) spotlight this month is Let’s Talk Energy, an education initiative run by the Canada Science and Technology Museum that strives to enhance energy and climate awareness among Canadians to contribute to a sustainable energy future. They are in advanced planning for Talk Energy Week 2017, which will happen from February 18-25th 2017. In partnership with Museums across the country, they will provide programming materials on the topic of electrifying the transportation sector. For high schools, they are working with Canadian Geographic to develop a series of infographics and lesson plans focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Canadian Wildlife Federation
Wild Grants

This is an ongoing grant program designed to help Canadians connect with and support nature in a variety of ways. This can include creating or improving wildlife habitat (gardens, shoreline cleanups, etc.) and learning about wildlife and wild places (BioBlitzes, soil or pond studies, etc.). Annually, this program provides grants of $250 to numerous projects across Canada, an excellent boost for projects that can use a helping hand.

Action Project Funding

Learning for a Sustainable Future provides funding for students and teachers to engage their school and community in an action project. Funding is available for schools, individual classes, and school groups/clubs.

My Parks Pass

Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds

The Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds program helps schools create outdoor classrooms to provide students with a healthy place to play, learn and develop a genuine respect for nature. Since the program began in 2000, it has provided funds to over 3,000 schools from coast to coast, providing countless opportunities for students to engage with nature on their school grounds.

Ken Spencer Awards for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

Apply for the CEA’s eighth annual Ken Spencer Awards for Innovation in Teaching and Learning and receive some well-deserved affirmation that your tenacity to break the mould of traditional schooling was the right thing to do. Seven cash awards totaling $15,000 are available to be won for your school.
