June 19, 2015 - Ground Zero: Preemption in Texas
 
Since the start of the 2015 legislative season, bills that preempt local public health policies have been filed in Congress and dozens of state legislatures, from Oregon to Florida. But no other state has matched the number and reach of the preemption bills introduced in Texas.
 
Our new blog post covers the politics and strategy behind preemption in Texas, and specific proposals to undermine local control in dozens of health and safety arenas.

As reported in a pro-gun blog post, a firearm "super-preemption" bill, HB 5500, is being reintroduced in the near future.

Oregon

Oregon House sends paid-sick-leave bill to governor

SB 454 preempts local authority to establish a higher minimum wage or mandate paid sick days. Governor Kate Brown (D) is expected to sign the bill.

Pennsylvania

Expansion of Pennsylvania's indoor smoking ban to be revisited
