Drawing inspiration from Simon Gudgeon's 'Search For Enlightenment' our latest show features works by Simon, Stephen Murfitt, Bill Zima, Laura Rich, Philip Wakeham, Tom Hiscocks, Akiko Hirai, James Hake and Tanya Gomez.
The gallery is filled with other delights from £5 to much more with the eclectic mix that Bils & Rye has become known for. April will see new ceramics from Chris Keenan along with more yet to be finalised.
Come and join us for our third birthday party on the 13th February 2016. There will be lots of new exhibits including works by Simon Gudgeon, Bill Zima, Laura Rich, Amy Albright, Akiko Hirai, Midori Takaki and Michelle McKinney.
"Searching For Enlightenment" is all about exploring the cerebral side of the art we exhibit. We would love to know what you think!
We are bringing a broad selection of work typical in the gallery with a few special pieces added in. Here are a few of those whose work will be on display.
Simon Gudgeon - Bronze Sculpture
Simon was born in Sheriff Hutton and grew up on the outskirts of Scarborough to a family with a rich heritage of farming. He has had a meteoric rise in the sculpture world with works in serious collections the world over. We are delighted to be working with him, thanks to the director of the Yorkshire Arboretum and a Californian based British artist, Guy Combes who provided the introduction!
Stephen Murfitt - Large Raku Ceramics
Stephen specialises in large vessels with very distinctive markings, both in glazes and in the body of the vessel. There is a warmth to his work that encourages interaction.
Bill Zima - Ink and Wax Paintings.
Bill contacted us in late 2015 having watched our film. Bill's first batch of work has sold so quickly we have more new pieces coming soon. Click the image to go to a blog about his process.
Laura Rich - Oil Paintings
Laura has been a gallery favourite for some time now and continues to go from strength to strength. We have a body of work all based on the North York Moors and she is completing several commission pieces.
Katharina Klug - Porcelain with Utility
Katharina comes from Austria and is now resident in Cambridge. From her home studio she has developed a unique approach to glazing her fine porcelain works. The latest pieces are teapots with stunning brass handles.
Chiu-i Wu - Ceramic Sculpture
Chiu-i makes work that just makes you smile. Her pieces are a translation of her imagination into clay figures. Some have utility, others just bring joy to the viewer. They all are finely detailed and make with perfection in mind.
Pauline Montgomery - Ceramic Houses
We fell in love with Pauline's work after finding her on the internet. The first batch of works sold well as have the second batch! Available as framed wall hangings or as pictured there's one that sure to be perfect for your home!
Tanya Gomez - Porcelain Vessels
Tanya's work is unique, polished and exceptionally fine. From the deep colours to the thinness of the pot, each element combines perfectly for a really modern piece.
