It has rushed by, the first three years of showing art, yet it feels like we have been here for a lot longer! 2016 promises to build on the wonderful platform of our first years with new artists, bigger shows and taking the gallery on the road more.
2015 saw us support Yorkshire Air Ambulance and we have currently raised nearly £2300 for this great cause. Thank you to all those who have donated, shared and inspired us. We will be announcing our 2016 Charity partner shortly.
Kate has also returned to the easel in her new temporary studio. Work has commenced on converting an old Granary at East Ness for her permanent home and she has started on a project that will take 18 - 24 months to complete! Progress can be found here.
Come and join us for our third birthday party on the 13th February 2016. There will be lots of new exhibits including works by Simon Gudgeon, Bill Zima, Laura Rich, Amy Albright, Akiko Hirai, Midori Takaki and Michelle McKinney.
"Searching For Enlightenment" is all about exploring the cerebral side of the art we exhibit. We would love to know what you think!
We are bringing a broad selection of work typical in the gallery with a few special pieces added in. Here are a few of those whose work will be on display.
Simon Gudgeon - Bronze Sculpture
Simon was born in Sheriff Hutton and grew up on the outskirts of Scarborough to a family with a rich heritage of farming. He has had a meteoric rise in the sculpture world with works in serious collections the world over. We are delighted to be working with him, thanks to the director of the Yorkshire Arboretum and a Californian based British artist, Guy Combes who provided the introduction!
Philip Wakeham - Bronze Sculpture
Philip produces truly individual sculptures often to a theme but each completely unique. We love the thought provoking nature and the questions the sculptures raise. Philip admits he doesn't aim to create a piece that asks questions but is happy if that is the result.
Bill Zima - Ink and Wax Paintings.
Bill contacted us in late 2015 having watched our film. We received a sample picture in January 2016, which has had a great response. Several more will follow in time for our opening in February.
Laura Rich - Oil Paintings
Laura has been a gallery favourite for some time now and continues to go from strength to strength. We have a body of work all based on the North York Moors and she is completing several commission pieces.
Amy Albright - Oil Paintings
We discovered Amy via Laura Rich after they both won contracts to supply P&O with work for their latest cruise ship. We love her ethereal works, the depth she achieves from such fine detail is very ingenious indeed.
Akiko Hirai - Japanese Ceramics made in London
Akiko is at the height of her game, in so much demand supply can be a real issue! We love her quirky works, which are becoming more and more sculptural in their appearance yet harping back to a utilitarian base.
Midori Takaki - From Japan to Canterbury - Hand Built Ceramics
Midori's work is fun filled ceramic sculpture that has roots in her Japanese upbringing and European lifestyle. We love the thought provoking expressions!
Michelle McKinney - Fine Metal Mesh Sculpture
Michelle's has a deep history in jewellery making and she perfectly utilises these skills as she crosses over to large scale sculpture. The metal meshes are more normally used in laboratories in filtration. She uses heat and chemical treatments to create astounding sculptures. Her feathers are unbelievable!
